Will art imitate life?

We wouldn't be a TV column if we didn't at least consider what Emily's joyful condition could mean for her character on Bones, Dr. "Bones" Brennan. More importantly, how will it impact the never-ending will they/won't they debacle of Bones-Booth (David Boreanaz) relationship? We went right to Fox to bug them such questions…

Bones, currently wrapping up its sixth season, might have some serious storyline decisions to make. A rep for the show tells us there is "no word yet on how production will handle [the pregnancy] at this point," but that doesn't mean we can't speculate a bit, right?

When actresses find themselves expecting, some shows choose not to put it into the characters' storyline and just use TV-making magic to conceal baby bumps. Giant purses, clever positioning of props and simply shooting from the chest up is usually the way to go about this. See Cobie Smulders on How I Met Your Mother and Tiffani Thiessen on White Collar.

Or, if the timing is right, the writers go ahead and include the pregnancy into the storyline. For example, both of Christa Miller's pregnancies were written into Scrubs. And we're just spitballin' here, but it's not entirely illogical for Bones to get preggo between now and next season. The season finale could have the long-awaited hookup of Bones and Booth, leading to an itty bitty crime-solving love child. Or maybe just the revelation that Bones is pregnant by dot dot dot. We're sure Hart Hanson's wheels are already turning.

All we know for sure is that a huge congrats is in order for Emily and David. Mazel tov, you two!

What do you say, Bones fans? Want to see a pregnancy written into the show? Or should the writers keep Brennan un-knocked up?

So, no official answer yet on whether they're writing the pregnancy in. She'll probably be pretty far along when they start filming season seven, so I expect them to hide Emily behind stuff.

actors: emily deschanel, episodes: season seven, episodes: season six
