Hey, guess what?
I COME BEARING GIFTS IS WHAT.
Now, I, like many, still carve pumpkins.
But we've grown out of simple faces and triangle-eyes. We have kits now, with pokers, several miniknives, and templates.
OH THE TEMPLATES.
Sadly, many templates are Cheesy. Witch faces and ghosts- eh.
But not to fear, my friends.
You have
the_odd_one.
And she made
Bones Pumpkin-Carving Templates.
How do I use these?
1. Buy a
pumpkin carving kit. You can get them basically anywhere that carries Halloween anything. (If you can't find them in any store, check amazon.com.) They're usually only a few bucks, and they're a necessity.
2. Print out the template on a full sheet of paper. Pick the side of your prepped pumpkin (you know, take the seeds out etc.) you want to carve, and tape the template on. I prefer to print two copies of my template-- one for on the pumpkin and one to keep nice to reference.
The kit itself should explain how to carve, but basically:
3. Poke holes along the lines of the template. Make the dots close together. It helps.
4. Once you've gone over all of the lines, remove the template. You'll probably want to throw it out, seeing as it will be pumpkin-juicy. This is why I like to print two copies.
5. Cut through the dots with the knives. What youre cutting out is what's WHITE on the template.
6. Be careful while you cut, and take your time so you don't ruin your pumpkin. Cut around small holes and fragile pieces first (IE, Booth's eye, Zack's nose, mouth, and chin, or Tempe's cheekbone and smile) to make it easier on you. EASE the pieces out- if you force things, you can ruin the pumpkin. Keep cutting through the wall of the pumpkin with your knives and BE PATIENT.
I did my best to make these templates fairly stable, but some pieces neded fixing / altering and still will be tricky (what I mentioned above, for instance). Pick something that looks in your skill level- Brennan, Hodgins, and Zack are probably easiest.
7. When finished, clean up and instert lit candle.
8. Turn off lights.
9. Squeal.
10. Take a photo to show me. I WANT TO SEE YOUR PUMPKINS!
Anyone who carves ALL of these gets... like. Something. I don't know what. But I'd be ecstatic XD
I'd been pondering doing these all month, and
burtonworshiper asked me about
weebones templates last night. I decided I'd go through with it and make these. Not only are they cooler, they're actually easier for me to make than weeBones ones. (Frankly, the weeBones are so simple that I'm unsure where I'd even begin with them!)
I hope everyone enjoys!
And remember: I WANT TO SEE PHOTOS OF YOUR PUMPKINS!!
