Charles/Erik, political scandal

Charles has become the voice of the mutant community and a staunch supporter and defender of their rights. Much like with other similar figures in real life, the government follows his personal life, looking for things they (and the public) would consider dirty little secrets. That's when they find out he's gay and involved with Erik and leak the pictures/records into the press. Being outed as gay would shake the carreer and reputation even of a modern politician, in the 60s or 70s the scandal would reach galactic proportions. Whether Erik is his militant self or is working with Charles is up to anon.
