I don't know how, but since the events of 1st Class just barely precede the first rise of Lord Voldemort, run with that?

Perhaps Erik's been very bad boy? It could be because he assumes a school for wizards is a great place to find mutant allies or because he thinks one of the marauders is a cute replacement for Xavier.

Maybe Emma introduces him to her brother, Lucius.
I'm sure Tonks and Raven would get along, but Tonks is probably a little kid or something.
