Azazel/Riptide, fairy tale

Janos is a young prince of a beautiful kingdom by the sea. Everyone in his family has water-based powers, so the country is strong (the king by himself is able to beat a whole army) and rich. Janos will be a king one day, so he gets lots of present from the royals of other countries - sometimes very expensive, sometimes very strange. One day someone gives him a slave - a weird creature captured in the country full of volcanos. The beast - or "demon" - has red skin, a tail, and spiked collar on his neck and doesn't seem to see anything - just looks at everything with distant, empty eyes.
Until he notices the Prince.
Bonus points for Janos tending Azzie's wounds from the spikes - the collar makes Azazel unable to teleport. The spikes themselves contain poison that makes him pliant and obiedient and dulls his senses.

GOD THIS STORY IS SO AWESOME. *__________*
You had me right from the first parts, but the most recent ones are just so unbelievably cool, I'm pretty much sitting here with my eyes bugged out going SO COOL SO COOL SO COOL. I love the characterization so far and I can't wait for Azazel to come more into play, but I adore your Riptide especially. He rings very true to me.
All in all, your storytelling is superb. If you ever decide to publish some teen lit or something, I'm there! I can't wait for more. :DDDDDDDD

Days pass by, and Janos barely leaves his room. He’s too disturbed by the celebration’s events to want to speak with anyone or do anything. He tries sleeping at night, but his dreams trouble him and he ends up staring at the ceiling, his thoughts creating a distracting whirlwind in his mind.
One night, instead of fruitlessly attempting to sleep, he steps out onto his balcony and gazes onto the sea. It’s ever-changing yet still remains the same. The scent calms his nerves enough for his heart to stop the rapid cadence within his chest that hasn’t seemed to calm.
He sits on the edge to watch the sunrise. There is nothing else to do.
As the sky turns a bloody red, his thoughts instantly fly back to the man Erik brought him. The demon, as he calls him. But Janos considers himself and the odd powers he has which make people tremble at the sight of him or treat him like some higher being, and then the man doesn’t seem so different. Janos decides that he needs to speak with the man now. Erik gave him to me, didn’t he, to do with him what

He closes the door behind him, places the keys in his pocket, and ventures into the darkness. It’s a while before he begins seeing the prison cells. And the darkness is suffocating. It’s the one thing that Janos never grew out of, his fear of the dark, and this blackness is the worst-it almost seems like another presence, living, breathing, growing and stretching around him until it smothers him in its black cloak

It’s difficult just getting Azazel out of the dungeon. He’s forced to hold up Azazel’s rapidly weakening body as well as carry the torch and guide them through the heavy darkness

“When it tries to teleport.” He seems to have found what he’s looking for. As he talks, he keeps his eyes trained on some target behind Janos. “Every time it attempts to teleport, the collar injects poison into it. If the creature tries to escape often enough, it will kill it. Without the antidote.”
“Give me the antidote,” Janos replies immediately.
Erik’s eyes flick briefly to his, then focus on the area behind him. “Certainly.” He reaches into a pocket and draws out a vial stopped with a cork and filled with clear liquid. He hands it to Janos, who takes it carefully, rolling it between his fingers.
“One drop on its tongue.”
His, Janos almost snaps, but then catches himself. He can’t let his distaste so clearly affect his interludes with Erik. But then Erik’s eyes are still on that spot behind Janos, so he finally hisses, “What are you staring at?” Without waiting for a reply, he whips around and sees a man talking with a woman next to a tree. He can’t tell who he’s looking at. He recognizes them both-the Duke of Cornwall,

“Azazel,” Janos says and sits on the bed next to him. His blue eyes are unseeing and his pupils are dilated. He must be suffering immensely. Janos says slowly, “I’m going to take off the collar now.” He waits for a spark of recognition, but none comes. He reasons that Azazel must be too far gone to process what he’s saying

Outside, it’s quiet except for the restless pulsing of the sea. The sight erases some of the worry building in him, like it always does. It’s never enough, the sea, but he would never give it away. The sea is an old friend, welcoming Janos with open arms and cradling him in its warm embrace. It never changes, never lies, never leaves

GAAAAAAAAAAAAH, THIS CONTINUES TO ME MIND-BOGGLINGLY AMAZING. I was so convinced I would be incapable of enjoying an AU in this fandom (particularly for these characters!) but this is, um, well, this is my favorite story without question. *_____________*
I am so in love with Riptide. His personality and everything. Even though we "hear" him speak in this and not in the film, he's still pretty spare with his words, so I like that. It keeps the canon characterization (to glorify it, lol) but gives it a better explanation than the likely WELL, WE FORGOT, OKAY?
Erik is a douchebag and I approve.
I think I may have a kink for Azazel being weak and helpless now, because I'm just like AWWWW RIPTIDE AWWWWWWWW all over these parts. I love Riptide taking care of him and Azazel sort of deferring to him and asking if he can sleep there, even though he doesn't want to be enslaved to anyone.
This must be the first time in recorded history that I've said this, but HAPPY ENDING PLEASE. ♥

Steam swirls up from Janos’ stew, which is a concoction of lamb, a thick, creamy base, carrot chunks, and topped with basil. He waits for Matyas to take the first bite, then tastes it himself. Delicious. He drinks from his wine glass and then eats a strawberry.
The courses continue to be served throughout. Janos is spooning out a thick, fruity custard when Erik says, “So. How has your gift been treating you?” Janos turns to look at him. He’s cutting into a slice of pork, watching him with a feigned smile on his face.
“I give my personal thanks to you, Erik,” Matyas says, and Erik gives a small, humble bow.
“Anything to serve my King and country.” Janos refrains from openly scoffing at that.
They return to the food, and Erik takes a bite of pork and then polishes off his wine. After a servant refills his glass, he says, creasing his brow, “Tell me, Janos. I hear you have the thing locked up in your room now, but did you really let that foul demon sleep in your own bed?” He clucks his tongue and shrugs. “I may be mistaken, of course
