(Note: Charles is a human, Erik is a mutant, and they’ve never met before.)
While recruiting mutants to his cause, Erik happens to offend a mutant with the power of transfiguration. He winds up being turned into a kitten and is kicked out onto the streets of New York. Erik is a menacing, self-reliant kitten, yes, but he’s also tiny and susceptible to chills -- and so when a young human professor eventually picks him up and murmurs softly to him and tucks him into his jacket, Erik doesn’t immediately claw him to ribbons

This, Erik thinks, taking shelter inside an overturned garbage can, was not my fault.Really, how was he to know that the mutant he'd been tracking for the last three days would be so violently opposed to the extermination of humanity? Or that she would yell, "My two younger sisters are perfectly 'normal' humans and if you think I'm going to let you hurt them for that, you have another think coming
