Fill: Muttersprache 2/2 oddegg July 5 2011, 00:39:02 UTC
Charles can’t understand it all and he suddenly wants to desperately. Wants this to be shared between the three of them so he reaches a hand down and slides it into Erik’s hair, slips into his mind and feels the barest tremor that means Erik knows he’s there, that he doesn’t mind. And now Charles can understand and he can listen as Erik talks to the baby, as he -

Tells her that he thinks she will be special, ein Mutant like him and Charles, but that even if she’s not she will always be the most besondere thing in the world to them both and that they will never, never let anyone hurt her. Niemand auf der Welt.

He tells her that there are so many people who can’t wait to meet her, her Tante Raven and all her Onkel. Die ganze Familie von Mutanten. All the family of mutants.

Erik tells her that she will be named after his eigene Mutter - Edie Xavier Lehnsherr - and that she will be beautiful and that she will be loved. Oh, so schön und so sehr geliebt.

He tells her that it is time to go to sleep now, Engelchen, and that this is a ( ... )

I am very, very glad it pleases you, darling! It was such a lovely prompt :) I didn't intend the ending to be quite so wibble-worthy as it was but it kinda ran away from me... <3

Hahaha, sometimes its a good things that things like that get away from us. And thank you, the prompt was rattling around in my head, but round four had just closed. I honestly think that Erik would impart as much of his heritage as possible to his child, and in many mpreg prompts dont even touch that.

I was the anon who wished to fill the prompt but lacked knowledge of german.

But I'm so glad that I didn't fill it, because this is absolute perfection. I love this for its simple beauty and the way you've portrayed Erik just makes me love this all the more! :D

Can't wait to see more from you!

Ah! *Please* don't let this disuade you from doing one yourself - I would love to see someone elses take on it!
But I'm so happy you liked it any case :D I'm a bit of a language geek so I love prompts that include that.

I've written a couple more - over on AO3 under the same name or scattered around the meme if you're interested :)

Thank you so much for the German translations! I personally would have chosen a blessing for children rather than the shema for the Hebrew prayer, but I liked it very much nonetheless. :)

Thanks go to day_moon for the translations - this would have been a much poorer affair if I'd had to rely on google!

I was uncertain about the shema myself but what persuaded me was a) I read it was one of the first prayers told to/learned by children & parents recite it with kids at bedtime, and b) it's my personal headcanon that after the camps Erik's religious education fell by the wayside in favour of revenge/survival and that there's a lot of Jewish culture which he has forgotten or never learned. So early childhood prayers may be the only ones he still knows.

I'm actually really fascinated by this issue of how much religion still impacts on Erik and would love to ask for some sort of fic - but my prompt would basically be: 'Someone who knows more about history, Judiasm and Jewish culture write me an essay, please'!! :D

This is ridiculously beautiful, the utter reverence you've given Erik's character especially, the tenderness, the gentle polyglot mutterings, his need for their daughter to UNDERSTAND the world she's coming into, what it's survived up 'til her birth, how SHE is proof that healing can come.

I love this, you did a wonderful job, thank you! <3

Aw god! *blushes madly* I don't feel I can respond to this lovely comment except to say 'thank you!' - It is always so gratifying to know that people have seen beyond my inadequate fictional fumblings to what I was trying to convey. <3 Thank *you* my sweet!
