How does one ask an author they admire "hey, would it be cool if I did podfic of your work?"

Because there's something I'd really love to do but I don't know this person's policy re: podfic and aksldjf hello awkward. WHY AM I SUCH A WUSS.

I feel like you say exactly that. Most people aren't scary. The worst they could do is just say no.
