Fic, Fandom, Reviewing, And Worries

Have you ever been in a fandom, and it's going along great - then suddenly it seems like it dies off?
Or, have you ever read a story, watched a vid, or enjoyed a lovely piece of fanart... and wondered why the creator didn't make more?
Artists - of word, paper, or digital media.... have you been sucked in by a fandom, you're loving it..... but then ( Read more... )

You are totally right rhion. I feel so bad about my abrupt dropout from the fandom when real life started kicking my ass about a month ago. susancaspian is slowly dying, and I for one am filling up my notebook with as many short stories that I can, so that once December 11th rolls around (last day of classes for the semester) I have something to contribute. I for one am hoping that the release of the dvd kinda sparks some awesome new series, and gives me the motivation to start the story novel that has been jumping around my brain for two months.

Well the thing is, is that most of us are depending on the DVD release to liven things up again. That's... sorta cheating. It's expecting something else to do the work, whereas a little tending of the 'garden' that is fandom yeilds fruit....That's my main argument at least. I think if we all just did a little bit more, we'd be surprised how well things go.

true, I wish that we weren't either, but it really couldn't hurt right? I definetly don't like that excuse, and if the Latin Demon wasn't sitting on my shoulder, well I know that my participation in the fandom wouldn't have fallen down a slippery slope.

Totally agree with every word! I miss the insane activity in the weekly drabbles - I think we got up to 15 entries a week or something. We should all get together and do something big to generate some love again.

Well on the YahooGroup, I'm planning on issuing more complex challenges. I'm leaving Autumn in charge of that she's done it for other fandoms, a single word challenge is great, but sometimes one word doesn't spark things.
In fact I've got an idea for one: I'll pick a book, and grab the first line from one of the chapters, and say "Start off the fic with this, and make it work" - we used to do that in WRBeta, and I think we peaked at like 50 responses in two weeks. Plus writing workshops would be good too, like schedule one once a month or something, and have a challange issued there for that specific workshop, or a 20minute drabble or soemthing.
We just gotta psych ourselfs up and each other too. Things will progress from there, y'know?

It's small at the moment, I haven't had much time to work on it challenge wise etc. But it'll be the first place I post Lurking etc, and it'll probably be the place I update the most. Obviously it's open media, anyone can join and contribute Suspian-ishness there. And it's only uh, oh my like 14hrs old? there' 'bouts. My hope is that it'll grow big enough to sustain itself, with a constantly changing and expanding group of artists and writers.

I agree completely. And that's in every fandom i've been in. It really can only take a couple of reviews on a chapter to kick start the inspiration and spur you on to continue writing.

You've made me think i should at least have a go at some writing for the community, no matter how bad it could be.

I'll try but can't make any promises. Have a bad history of procrastination and being distracted D: *writes it on to do list*
