Fandom: Artemis Fowl
Pairing: Artemis Fowl Jr./Domovoi Butler
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: PG-13

A/N: Okay, so the truth is, I really shouldn't have done this because I haven't finished reading the series yet. I've only read the first three. So, I've tried to keep most of them kind of vague- since I don't know what happens in the next two books. Hence, these are spoilerfree! Since I don't know any spoilers- not enough to spoil anything anyway. *laugh* So..er..just keep that in mind. Also, I'm aware that they're incredibly OOC. *sigh* I'm just not happy with these sentences. I should have waited until I finished the series. Ah well. What's done is done. Onward!

  1. Motion:

Sometimes, when he was training, Butler caught Artemis looking him over, but the boy would always turn away, returning to his book or laptop or the plots that seemed to be constantly being planned in his head- they both pretended not to smile.

  1. Cool:

Artemis didn’t use colloquialisms such as ‘cool’ but even he had to admit that the way Butler took down that hit man- in one lightning fast move- was pretty damn cool.

  1. Young:

It wasn’t so much Artemis’ youth that bothered Butler about this whole thing- the soft touches, the startled kisses, the boy’s thin graceful fingers- it was the way Artemis treated the affair, as though it were all part of his master plan.

  1. Last:

They had both assumed too much, that they would live together and die together, and even when Butler took his last breath, the image of Artemis’ twenty-five year old self darkening in his dying eyes, Butler still couldn’t help but think, “We’re going together.”

  1. Wrong:

Artemis Fowl was not often wrong- in fact, though a few times in his lifetime he’d made certain miscalculations, he couldn’t ever remember being wrong- but there came a point where he thought, It’s over now, and yet when he awoke in the middle of the night, Butler’s large figure casting a shadow over his bed, he knew that he’d been wrong.

  1. Gentle:

The action was not exactly gentle, but it was much softer than Butler was accustomed to, but he didn’t mention it of course- that would only cause Artemis to tense up again.

  1. One:

Butler was no idiot, but even he had to stop and sigh when Artemis and Foaly began to talk- he swore one day they would start speaking in nothing but ones and zeros.

  1. Thousand:

Artemis had seen quite few fantastical things, but even he had never really expected to find the fountain of youth- it was too late now though- he didn’t want to live any longer.

  1. King:

“I like to think that in a previous life,” said Artemis thoughtfully as he stared up at the night sky, “I was some sort of Pharaoh,” and though Butler’s first instinct was to laugh, he suppressed it as the truth of these words sunk in; It wasn’t the power that made them true, but Artemis’ subconscious need to be good.

10. Learn:
At the age of fourteen, there wasn’t much that Artemis Fowl didn’t know, but as Butler’s mouth covered his own, and those giant hands slipped nimbly beneath his shirt, he discovered that Butler still had much to teach.

11. Blur:
Butler moved so quickly that Artemis couldn’t see him, rather like a shielded fairy; it still awed him at times.

12. Wait:
Artemis felt absolutely ridiculous as he sat on his large bed, his hands over his eyes, waiting for Butler to return and yet he didn’t remove them until he felt Butler’s breath against his ear, “You can look now,” and when he did- and discovered that Butler was completely nude except for a loin cloth- he was glad he’d retired early from his birthday party at the other’s request.

13. Change:
He didn’t expect things to be so different, for Butler to be so different, for himself to be so different- after all, it had only been one kiss.

14. Command:
He was holding onto Butler’s hand as tightly as he could while the man dangled from the cliff’s edge, but he was heavy and Artemis was starting to slip forward as well- “Don’t let go! That’s an order!”- but with a twinkle in his eye, and a small smile on his face, he disobeyed Artemis’ command.

15. Hold:
He didn’t much like to be touched or held or kissed- even as a baby- but Artemis was human, despite popular belief, and when Butler’s fingers slid over his skin, gently and gracefully, Artemis felt that he’d give anything- all the gold in the world, his mother’s sanity, his father, all his memories of the People- so that that touch would never stop.

16. Need:
Sometimes, when Butler lay beside him in the aftermath of their lovemaking and he looked absolutely relaxed, Artemis would think that he had all he could ever need- only to admonish himself the next second for being so damn sensitive.

17. Vision:
When Artemis was on the brink of a breakthrough, his eyes would unfocus and his lips would part- and it was all Butler could do to keep from sniggering.

18. Attention:
She was pretty, the blonde was, with rather large breasts and a thin waist- some might even call her attractive, and Butler was certainly paying enough attention to her; however, she had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Artemis deemed the five star restaurant “unsatisfactory” and forced them to leave immediately.

19. Soul:
“I don’t have a soul,” said Artemis- because if he didn’t have a soul, he wouldn’t have to go to hell, and he was sure that there would be no Butler in hell.

20. Picture:
The photograph was slightly crumpled and quite old- the edges were fading and yellowing- but it went everywhere that Butler went, for it was his last link to Artemis Fowl Junior.

21. Fool:
He felt like a fool, but Artemis would never admit such a thing to himself or to anyone- and that was the real reason he let Butler walk away.

22. Mad:
They all knew it was coming because when Butler left, he took Artemis’ sanity with him.

23. Child:
“I’m not a child, Butler!” screamed Artemis as the bodyguard thrust into his Principal, “so move faster and harder now,” and this was, of course, the most childish thing Artemis Fowl had ever said.

24. Now:
They lived in the future- both of them- Artemis’ in planning it, Butler in protecting it and that way, they could both ignore the present.

25. Shadow:
The things they did, they hid- in lies and darkness- not because they were ashamed of it, or because they thought it was wrong (for neither of them had too much of a sense of right and wrong), but because that was the way they both lived, in the shadows.

26. Goodbye
They both knew all separation was temporary, which was why they never said “Good bye,” and right until the end they never said goodbye.

27. Hide:
“I’m sick of this,” said Artemis- his voice perfectly even- after Butler had come, and they both knew what it wasn’t the sex he was talking about.

28. Fortune:
It occurred to Artemis one night, that wealth was not the money in his many bank accounts but the look on Butler’s face as he slept.

29. Safe:
It took Artemis exactly 2.35427 seconds to crack the safe, but cracking Butler took years- and more patience than Artemis knew he had.

30. Ghost:
At times, Artemis awoke in the middle of the night, a thin layer of perspiration covering his upper lip, to a giant shadow, hovering over his bed, but when he blinked his eyes a few times, he realized that it was only his imagination and- fighting down shivers- he returned to a fitful sleep.

31. Book:
In the end, the Book was not really a book, but data, and Butler was not really a butler, but a bodyguard- and Artemis couldn’t afford for either of those things to be anything more.

32. Eye:
He was always watching, keeping a constant vigil, not because it was Butler’s job, but because if he didn’t, who would?

33. Never:
Artemis wishes that it had never come to pass, and yet when he feels those arms around his thin frame, he hopes it never ends.

34. Sing:
It wasn’t singing, so much as it was a quiet humming, and Artemis wasn’t listening, so much as he was sleeping- but then, wasn’t sleeping what lullabies were made for?

35. Sudden:
The problem was that Butler still looked young, so that his death- a death that despite Artemis’ suspicions was completely natural- came so suddenly that Artemis felt he’d barely had time to realize that Butler was beginning to fail.

36. Stop:
“We can’t continue this,” and Artemis’ voice was so cold and rational that Butler almost believed him- almost.

37. Time:
It slipped between his fingers, going faster and faster until Artemis’ head was spinning; there was no way to escape it, no way for Butler to escape it, but they both tried, and they both failed.

38. Wash:
Sometimes if felt as though Butler’s sins were carved into his flesh in intricate shapes with no discernable pattern- plain for the world to see- and it saddened him to think that his Principal had just as many sins, if not more; were they just as plain as his own, or did Artemis’ sins run deeper, where they could not be cleansed by goodness?

39. Torn:
When the time had come to choose- Principal or family- Butler had failed, and as he watched the bullets eat up Artemis’ flesh, he knew that his life was now worth nothing.

40. History:
The Butlers had served the Fowls for as long as there were Butlers and Fowls, but there came a point when the man turned from Butler to Domovoi, from bodyguard to lover, from protector to liability.

41. Power:
All the gold in the world couldn’t bring Butler back- and that was true powerlessness.

42. Bother:
“I’m of no help to you in this state,” said Butler, looking at his feet- just poking out from under the covers- at his hands, at the get well cards on the nightstand, at the fluorescent light bulbs, at anything that wasn’t Artemis, anything so that he wouldn’t have to recognize the true weight of his words reflected in the boy’s pale face.

43. God:
To Artemis, Domovoi Butler was God, Satan, and Krishna all rolled into one.

44.    Wall:
It was often said that Butler looked like a wall, strong, steady, sturdy, and impenetrable, and yet, no matter how long Artemis looked at him, all he saw was the gracefulness with which he moved, and the careful attentiveness he paid to things that even Artemis overlooked.

45.    Naked:
The first thing that Artemis was aware of the next morning, was that he was naked (something that, though his mind was groggy from the previous nights champagne, he found incredibly peculiar, as he despised sleeping out of his pajamas), and the second thing was that there was a giant man in his bed- it took him much longer to figure out that it was Butler.

46.    Drive:
Artemis really had no need to learn how to drive- after all, Butler drove him to most places, and he had other ways of getting around- and after he crashed his first car, five minutes after turning the car on, he swore he’d learn to fly before he attempted to drive again.

47.    Harm:
He never saw it coming, because he always assumed Butler would be there, the way he always was; he forgot that Butler would never be there again and that Artemis had convinced himself that he had wanted it that way.

48.    Precious:
“You are everything,” and the way Butler said those words, they sounded almost casual, but Artemis’ heart rate sped up a bit and he could feel the blood pounding in his veins.

49.    Hunger:
Butler was gone- Artemis had expected that, but what he hadn’t expected was the cold emptiness that left him wanting, longing, yearning; thirst that was never quenched.

50.    Believe:
He was dead, Artemis knew, and yet there was something that told him that they’d meet again, somehow, someday, and Artemis tried desperately to believe in it because that was all he had left.
