What's the best way to a refer to a paper written by a person and his wife (of a different last name), to the person in question? That is, if you're talking to Smith, who is married to Jones, about a paper with Doe (unrelated), you can just say ( Read more... )

Just refer to the content of the paper instead. Like, "Your paper on fluxion-muxions," or if there's more than one, "Your paper on fluxion-muxions in the Journal of Rhyming Subjects." Hopefully there won't be a need for futher specificity.

If there is a need to specify further, use the year. "Your 2006 JRS on fluxion-muxions."
