The police union's response is appalling and typical. That they even have an opinion on this is ridiculous. They cry and cry and refuse to take action when citizens asking for the termination of cops who murder innocent, unarmed citizens. Their statement is nothing more than an opportunistic swat at Sam for trying to set them under a commissioner who would actually work toward bringing an end to that kind of shit.
And why is it that the same people who wouldn't dare let their 16 year old daughter go out with a 17 year old guy because "he's only interested in one thing" find it so difficult to believe that Sam didn't have Beau at knife point trying to get in his pants. It's homophobia, plain and simple.
Did you hear the police chief on NPR this morning on Think Outloud? The interviewer did a good job of making him stick on point, and by trying to get him to address two things

I think all the newspapers in my area are overwhelmed with letters at the moment...and no one reads them anyway. It seems to me it would be a bonus to boink an experienced partner at 18, as opposed to another awkward 18 year old.
