sigh

I haven't exactly been excited by...well, anyone Obama has picked for his cabinet so far. In fairness, I don't know much about any of them, other than the few who have leftover baggage from the Bill Clinton Ultimate Self-Absorbed Indecisive Presidency. Then I read this, sighed, and said: oh fuck ( Read more... )

I keep waiting for new names I've never heard of, and names like Bill Richardson, Kathy Sebelious (sp), Al Gore, shit, even Warren Buffet. So far it's been the same string of douchebags who have been fucking up our country for years. "Now madgirl, most of those people are just a 'transition team,' whatever that means." Okay, fine: now get some NEW people in the house, okay?

I'm still holding out hope for some rockin' surprises. I read an article that said Bill Richardson is the "always a bridesmaid" of the Democratic party, and I really hope that's not the case in this instance...and I'm really beginning to wonder if Hillary Clinton's people conveniently "leak" information depending on what position Clinton's gunning for. I'd be really disappointed if she became secretary of state.

Maybe that was the deal they *did* cut. I've never been that impressed by either Clinton (though her perhaps moreso than Bill) and think a lot of people view his presidency with stars in their eyes simply because it was so much better than eight years of Bush, or four years of Bush before him. I more or less agree with this editorial in the NYTimes:

I recently read in a rather great history book ("Restless Giant" by James T. Patterson...I'm now into reading all of his history books) that Clinton's foreign policy was basically to have none - he simply responded to crises as they happened and called it a day. His focus was on developing the country itself, first through health care, and then when that failed, through economic repair - which he did astonishingly well. I try to remember this when Obama keeps plucking folks from Clinton-era: that while they're not all my favorite people, they did repair the last recession. Clinton got criticism for things like the Somalia debacle, ignoring Rwanda, etc - but I like that the book makes a point of stating that it wasn't clear what a better choice would have been ( ... )
