He wasn't really here to drink. It was more for the ambiance. The tavern was much more lively than his room, having more bodies taking up space than books and maps. The lull of conversation among the certain parties gathered also made things bearable, dead silence being creepy altogether.

The castle master needed to stop thinking about his daily rounds. There was only so much he could do, and when he thought everything was taken care of, a lot more got piled onto his ever shifting to-do list. New people, new concepts, old problems that wouldn't fade that easily. And a lost dog, but that was a special case.

With a sigh, Thomas meandered over to the bar, seating himself upon a stool. In all honesty, he didn't really know what to order; sitting there made for an easy distraction. However, Seed's expression was noticeable. "...Is everything all right?" the young man asked quietly, turning his head slightly.

Seed looked startled at Thomas' question. Everyone in the Highland camp, from petty soldiers and cooks to high-ranking officers, knew to steer clear of him when he was in one of his moods: no one, save Culgan, usually had the courage to inquire as to the cause of his frustrations. And even Culgan didn't always escape unscathed.

But the man... the boy? sitting in front of him seemed so open and so... so damned honest... Seed found himself answering, if a little curtly.

"No. I wouldn't be here trying to drown in a tankard of ale if everything was all right."

Eyebrows raised a bit in surprise as well, Seed's reaction affecting him to a low degree of panic. The castle master could hardly be considered a threat, and actually remaining calm about it took a lot of effort.

Thomas did have that youthfulness to his physical being, but it couldn't be helped. To think the stress which came with managing castle grounds would have some effect on him, but all added was some tiredness. "...Oh. O-of course," he answered quietly, trying to smile.

He paused for a while more, his brow furrowing in concern. "Would...would it be too much of a bother to ask about your situation?"

Seed opened his mouth, his whole demeanor, from his sudden leaning forward to his scrunched up eyebrows, giving the impression that he was about to snap at the person who was intruding on his self-imposed moment of misery.

But, suddenly, his anger seemed to deflate, and he leaned back, scratching the slight stubble on his jaw thoughtfully, mulling things over, before answering, a little hesitantly:

"I don't know what else to give."

Sigurd may have disliked Geddoe coming home reeking of alcohol, but by god, Geddoe was going to come home reeking of alcohol tonight. It was very hard for him to get completely drunk, even in his worst moods, and he'd been feeling a little less fatalistic today, so the drink was more to have something normal to cling to. Any tiny bit of normalcy would do.

Without asking, he passed the bar and grabbed the last tankard from the line, the one most freshly poured. "You must have read my mind," he grumbled.

Seed's knee-jerk reaction would be to tell the newcomer to get his own, but he was an employee, he was standing behind the bar, and he was pouring drinks.

So, instead, he mumbled "All part of the service", as he poured himself another tankard and, upon realizing that he had behaved rather poorly towards a patron, caught one of the glasses and raised it in a toast.

The movement was slightly abrupt, and mirthless. "To ale. A steadfast friend and healer of all woes."

Geddoe tossed his head sideways in a sort of shrug. "To the obliterator of thoughts," he likewise toasted before taking a sip.

"Weren't you a knight of some kind? What are you doing back behind there tonight?"

Seed drained his tankard, then set it down on the bar, a little too hard, the glass rattling, before wiping his mouth and answering Geddoe.

"I was a general", he corrected, "A cavalry general. But without a country to protect, that title is worthless."

He waved off a customer who had asked for a drink with a "Give me a minute, will ya?", then shrugged. "I'm a man without a country and a purpose... what better place for me than a tavern, where I get to serve others with no country and no purpose?"

The fisherwoman was sitting in the tavern, hair damp from a recent bath, playing solitaire at a table with a rather tattered pack of cards. She started at the noise of Seed banging his glass down on the bar and turned to look at him. Recognizing him as one of the pair interceding between Roy and that girl, she considered whether she ought to talk to him, given the sour look on his face.

In a rare moment of discretion, she decided not to, but remained aware of his presence--and that the castle's lord was approaching him.

(ooc: I noticed you referenced Thomas in your tag, do you want to tag in his thread or do you want Seed to wander to Subala when he's done?)

((I figured, polite and sensitive girl that she is, she'd eavesdrop and interject in one of the other conversations as she felt like it. But if you'd prefer to do a separate log afterwards, that's fine too. It's your journal. ^^))
