Torchwood Review: Reset

2 reviews in one today and I've still got a new Supernatural ep to watch tonight.

Fangirl overload.

HOLY CRAP!

THAT. WAS. AWESOME.

I have no complaints about this episode.  No nit picks, no issues, no problems.

Not one.

It was everything I could ever ask for.  The pacing was great, the balance of humor and drama was spot on, the dialog was witty and ( Read more... )

I totally agree.. omg, I was all o_O at the end. And I refuse to believe it, I was totally jumping on Owen this season (I've even just finished a fic with them going on their date *lol*)

Dammit... I can't even say "Why didn't they kill Gwen instead?" becuase I'm starting to like her too!

A week is too long to wait now!!!

I know! She's been much better in the last few eps.

And I do think I'm in love with Owen now.

I think it helps us like Gwen better if she's hardly in the episode. It definitely helps if the episode doesn't revolve around her.

Fantastic review, btw. Heh, in my experience it's more likely that student would assassinate the SLC than the other way around! Still a great line, though.

:D

Great summary - except - I hated Martha in this! I think I must be alone in this judging by all the comments on the forums. I just felt she was playing a childrens TV part in an adult show. I felt she was stilted and apart from the scene with Ianto and the red beret, was not really convincing at all.

I feel terrible for saying it, but I got really stuck on her. I must watch it again and maybe I will feel better about her.

For me she felt much more grown-up since her Who days, but that's me. Everybody has their own tastes. I have a friend who really disliked Martha in Dr. Who, but who is on my case about going easier on Gwen. I'll be very interested to talk to her tonight about what she thinks of Martha in Torchwood. Maybe I'll have to remind her to go easy this time ;)

They aired ep 5 on BBC2 last night and then ep 6 imediatley following on BBC3 (nobody knows why). I have a friend who downloads things for me. Thank Goodness!

Yup. Definately dead, but I doubt he's going to stay that way (since I've seen a spoiler for ep 9 that lists him as being in it). Should be angsty though!

ETA:This clip from youtube has next weeks trailer, but it also has the death scene (which you may not want to see without the context of the episode).

I agree with most of what you're saying here, especially about the references to the DW episodes and Jack's behaviour.

I watched the whole Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords arc on DVD the other day, and I was struck by how lighthearted Jack is when he's with the Doctor. I attriubted this partly to the fact that DW can't get as dark as TW, but it also made sense from a character perspective: in TW, Jack is the leader, and the lives of his team are constantly on his shoulders, but with the Doctor, someone else can take the lead. I think the fact that Jack seemed more lightheared with Martha works well with this-- she's able to open up a side of his personality that he only gets to show when he's with the Doctor.

I agree completely. Being in a life or death situation is one thing, but being responsible for the lifes of others in a life and death situation is quite another. There is a completely different emotional and mental drain when others look to you for leadership.

I started to sob when Owen died. Today was ruined for me until I remembered a spoiler I read a while back. (Spoiler a head, very small). Apparently someone was watching the filming (when they were still filming) and Owen ran out of a building or something and kissed Tosh. It hasn't happened yet so he's not dead!! ::is happy::
So much love for the conversation between Ianto and Martha.
