Torchwood Review: Sleeper

My thoughts on the ep.  As always, you get what you pay for.

It seems that this episode has brought out some really mixed reactions from people.  I was really surprised by this because in spite of the fact that this episode didn't focus on the main characters as much (something I usually don't care for) I really enjoyed it.  I felt it flowed really ( Read more... )

If it's wrong to be so in love with a fictional character I don't want to be right!

Great review. I agree with everything you said about the characters.

Gwen: I couldn't stand her last series, but she really does seem to be growing on me this series.

Owen: Really has grown while still being snarky (which is something I always love).

Tosh: More Tosh is always good (from what I've heard there will be much more Tosh in the next episode).

Ianto: Nice character development there. He seems much more confident; both in his relationship with Jack and his relationship with the team in general.

Jack: I don't understand why people thought Jack was out of character (I did see Cyberwomen). He is the leader so he has to make the tough choices.

Because you did such a great job, here is a gift. Enjoy :D

I very much so agree with a lot of this, though I do have to disagree with one tiny bit. There were signs that Ianto was like this before the whole Lisa thing, though definitely not as obvious. It wasn't much, but it was there, such as when Jack mentioned how good he looked in a suit and how he could try to identify Carys the old-fashioned way, you know, with his eyes?

Oh, Tosh is freaking awesome. How do they all work with her without being totally in love with her in that blouse and skirt and glasses and the hair?

Oh yes there were definitely signs that he had this personality, I was just referring to him letting it shine through. That humor, however muted, was what first interested me in the character.

I know! I think I'm getting a total girl crush.

So much word to this.

I'm still not fond of Heart!Gwen, because I don't think she's anywhere near as empathic as they intend to write her but she was better this week. I wish she wasn't always the hostage, too. There are other characters in Torchwood.

But everything else? Totally agree!

Sometimes it's a lot of work to like her, but I keep trying.

WORD

Why not Tosh? She would be an uber sexy hostage!

Ah! I know exactly what you mean. I mean, I actually like Gwen, even though she can annoy the piss out of me, but I really understand and agree with what you're saying with everyone. They're all really full characters that are just growing. I mean, of course it's going to be weird for Ianto to start being funny, but he started off as a fairly lighthearted character, went through some tough times, and he's moved on. And Jack does what he needs to do for the sake of everyone (really... as in, the whole world usually), and he knows that sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the greater good and all that crap.

"So yeah, I’m happy and I’m looking forward to next week for 2 reasons:

1. More Tosh. More Tosh is always a good thing.
2. SNOG!!!"

*squees*

That none of the charcters are just black & white is something that I love about the show. You should always be able to find ocassional flaws in the characters you love and redeming value in the characters you don't.

And yes, nothing but SQUEEEE! for next week
