Sweet Valley Junior High #9: Too Popular

Mar 05, 2008 21:33

Jessica learns that sometimes being neutral is worse than doing something you don't really like.

Cover: Eh, couldn't find it in a decent sized picture of the cover but it is Jessica(?) and a guy (Damon?) under an umbrella. In a scene that never happened in the book.

Hey, great recap =) Hah, it's pretty odd that the only way Jessica got her man in this book was by pretending to date another man. I agree with you, this book/series is pretty realistic. More realistic than its' high school version, Sweet Valley Senior Year...there was just too much teen drama crammed into that. Alcoholism, coming out of the closet, gambling addictions, parental heart attacks, suicide attempts and future-crushing accidents, all in the same group of friends? Seems like a pretty unlucky group of friends! ...Though I guess there were no face-stealers, evil doppelgangers or cocaine deaths.

Poor Ronald! I'm 26 and married and still sleep with a stuffed animal. Don't let the haters get you down, Ronald!

Great recap, as usual! :)

Wow, I can't believe a SV book could be so realistic about teenage friend-related angst. I could actually imagine all that happening. Weirdness.

And little-to-no Liz is ALWAYS a bonus.

Ronald reminds me of this creepy coworker I have. Or my (thankfully incredibly dumb) internet stalker. The thought of either staying over at my house makes me shudder.

(they reference finding out where their great-grandmother was buried before they even knew it, was that a SVT book?).

Umm no I don't think so - there is a book where Jess makes up a lie that Quakefield Wakefield is actually their cousin but estranged due to a family fued (he's a famous sports player) and it actually turns out to be true, but I think that was more Jessica's infamous streak of good luck and SV hijinks than belief in the supernatural.
