The Unicorn Club #6: Unicorns at War

May 10, 2011 23:29

Before I begin, I just want to say that I wrote most of this recap over two years ago, around the time of the last US presidential election, but for various reasons never posted it. These jokes are vintage 2008, ladies! (Who knew that Sarah Palin jokes wouldn't stand the test of time?)

I seem to remember Kimberley was kind of mean in the earlier SVT books, but was clearly overshadowed by Janet.

I always hated this one because everyone in it was miserable and/or mean. Your recap is an excellently done one that made me grin, but it doesn't erase the sting.

And Mary's so BORING! She's like Liz, but at least Liz has the decency to be a Wakefield and get involved in kidnappings and earthquakes and twin switches.

Indeed, and I was a Liz fan back in the day ^^ I think I wanted to like Mary as much, but... she did hardly anything outside of this one book. (Not helped by me giving up on the Unicorn series after this book, of course.)

"Mary chats with Mandy Miller. Mandy doesn't want to side with either Mary or Kimberly, as both of them were really nice to her while she was recovering from cancer, apparently. Yes, that was a tough week for Mandy. She also feels that as Unicorn president, she can't "officially support" one girl over the other. I really love how the Unicorns always talk as though they're a legitimate organisation rather than a gang of girls brought together by their mutual love of the colour purple. Kimberly walks in and makes some mean jokes about Lois Waller, who's also running for president. When I read that Lois was running, I thought, "Fat chance," and then I laughed at my own joke. "

Best. Paragraph. Ever.

If I could "like" that I would.
Poor Lois!

I totally thought Lois would win, sort of like Randy Mason won against Liz and Jess in The War Between the Twins.

I'm 32 and I just bought almost the entire Twins series off ebay. I told myself I bought them to share with my kids but... Is it weird that I can't WAIT to read them all again? They're so deliciously twisted. Long live Sweet Valley!
