I used to love these books when they came out. *facepalm* I'm kind of dying to reread one to wax nostalgic about the 90s slang, though. :P

I also now keep reading Erika's name with Japanese pronunciation, because Erika with a K is a Japanese name (no relation to Erica in English), and I keep picturing her as Japanese and then remembering that she's not.

Also, icon love. <3

Oh man, within the first few chapters we have someone "macking" on someone's girlfriend, Jeff describing Liz's internship as "kicking", "hyper" and "über" as prefixes for various adjectives... and the list goes on. It's particularly cringeworthy when you consider that this book was published in 2002!

I had no idea that Erika was a Japanese name as well! *files random fact away for future use*

Ha, if Erika had been Japanese, SV would have made sure we knew about it. Every page there would be a reference to her "almond shaped eyes" ala Jade Wu and Claudia Kishi. She would be on the cover to show how racially diverse the books are and in the book she would have to overcome some mild racism from the bullies of SV until Elizabeth patted her on the shoulder and reminded her that it was ok to be something other than blonde and tanned. :D

This necessitated my going up to the counter and trying to maintain my composure while I, a 34-year-old woman in business corporate wear, stood there sheepishly while the librarian scanned my stack of SVH books
This is kind of my nightmare! I try to mentally telegraph to whoever is ringing me up that these are OBVIOUSLY for my NONEXISTENT CHILDREN. Because I am an adult. Yes. Obviously.

I was really excited when someone told me that Jeffrey French came back in SVHSY because I retroactively grew to love Jeffrey when recapping the SVH books. But this incarnation is clearly inferior to SVH Jeffrey. I'd go so far as to say they're obviously different people. Some sort of Margo-esque Jeffery doppelganger who is crazy and loves the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air killed him and took over his life.

RIP Jeffery. D:

YES. The whole time I was standing there, I was carrying on a conversation with the librarian IN MY HEAD that went something like this: "Oh, these? They're for my niece. She's visiting me from out of town, just loves this series. Where out of town? Oh, um, the moon."

I went through the same thing when I checked my SVU book out earlier this week! I was chatting and laughing with the librarian, and then I handed her the book and she got really quiet. I wanted to scream, "There's a gunman outside who says I have to check this book out or he's gonna shoot my puppy! I swear, I don't have any choice! YOU'VE GOTTA BELIEVE ME!!!"

But I let my eyes say it all for me. I'm sure she got it.

I have actually had conversations with librarians about whether my (completely imaginary) niece would like particular books so that I don't scream 'crazy adult checking out kids books'... Local library has self opperated desks now, so there will be no future (self created) embarrasment.

I will never forgive these books for what they did to Jeffrey.

I LOVED him in SVH, was so excited when I heard he'd be getting back together with Elizabeth in SY... and this is what they did! :( Destroyed him completely!

I just found this community (omg I wish I'd known about you people years ago!) and have totally gone all nostalgic. I just know that the next time I go to the library, this is totally going to be me.

LOL, we need some sort of support group or something.
