SVH Senior Year #18: As If I Care

Or: The One in which someone in Sweet Valley is actually gay!

That's not even the A plot, sadly enough. But it's the part of the book I remembered most, I think because it surprised me Sweet Valley actually acknowledged that some people prefer their own gender. It doesn't hurt that I kind of like Andy. He's slightly less annoying and much less ( Read more... )

Too. Many. J. Names.

And Jade's not fired on the spot because it's Sweet Valley. A-duh!

I know! I was getting confused with all the Js, and I read the stupid book!

The biggest mystery of all is: who is Don Phillip?

I own this book and I still don't know.

Haha! Yeah, I should have stuck in a tidbit about that. Just judging from the back page of the book, he's some wannabe who worked with Britney Spears once. If that's your biggest claim to fame, buddy, you live a rather sad existence.

What cracked me up was the offer of a free cassette tape! In 2000. Little behind the times, are we?

That's hardly the offer that the 'N Sync tape was, a few books back...

Man, I'm re-reading SVH SY#3 as we speak. I'm in love with Conner McDermott. I don't care that he's a broody, emo alcoholic.

I kind of like emo, alcoholic Conner with Elizabeth... he makes for a much more interesting counterpart than Trusty Boyfriend Todd.

Ooooh, #3! I don't have that one. Are you going to recap it for us all?

Yeah, I was pretty sure she got in trouble for it later, cuz I think it's #22 that was already recapped, and Jade's still grumbling about Jessica the evil wench who got her fired. You know the world's topsy turvy when a Wakefield is the one who's making sense.

Hurray, Andy!

Doesn't she only tell on Jade after something else happens in the triple-J love triangle, though? I don't remember any specifics, but I remember it not being even remotely the main reason Jessica eventually ratted her out. The fuck? And I remember how the manager was totally onto her about it too. "And you didn't tell me this at the time...why?" "Well, you know, you just don't talk about stuff like that...*giggle*" "Um, actually, as assistant manager that is part of your job." Hee.

And yeah, later on it's all about how Jade really needs a job, but, um, Jade? You shat all over your last one with the kind of brass balls that I saw maybe once or twice at most in my entire 5-6 years in jobs like that. Should you not have perhaps thought about your dire financial situation before you pulled that stunt?

Aww, that makes me sad. Andy's lack of melodramatic angst is one of the reasons he wins out over all the other characters.

Perhaps he read Babysitters Club books and expected to be treated the way Jessi Ramsey was - you know, "Our friend Andy is GAY!!!! But *WE* don't mind!!!!"

Yeah, I was going to say, wasn't Jade the girl who wanted to be a dancer or whatever? And was embarrassed by her dry-cleaning parents?

Yeah, she changed her name too...I have that early SVH book and I can't remember what she wanted to change her name to. Because she was ashamed of being Asian, or something like that...

No, I think it was Rosa Jameson that changed her name because she was ashamed of being Mexican. She changed it to Rose.
