Erg, no offense to your recap, but this made me fall asleep. There is no plot here! Just Liz and Sam (who the fuck is this Sam? MY Sam died in a car crash on prom night) making eyes at each other. Blah. Way to go out with a whimper, SVU.
They could've at least brought William White back. I mean, it's the last book. Someone should've pushed him in a pool--wait! Todd should've PUNCHED him into a pool. That'd be a fitting ending. Even someone who's risen from the grave/escaped jail would never recover from that.
No offense taken - it took me about six months to recap this book as I kept getting bored and giving up on it. Then I'd come back and discover that the last line I'd typed was "WHY ON EARTH AM I RECAPPING THIS BOOK? NOTHING IS HAPPENING!"
Sam appeared in the book after Nick died. Out of the blue, they sent the twins and Tom and Todd on a random road trip, and kind of tried to pretend that nothing bad had happened in their lives. I guess someone in the publishing company decided they needed more normalism in Sweet Valley. But who wants things to be normal when you can have stalkers and murderers and secret societies? I agree, this book pretty much sucks.
FYI, Calista Flockhart is the girl who played the lead role in "Ally McBeal" (a popular show in the 90s though I never watched it because I couldn't stand her) and is now Harrison Ford's fiancee. Ryan Philippe was in several movies including "Cruel Intentions" and is Reese Witherspoon's ex-husband.
LOL, I was a teenager at the time this book came out, and I remember my friend at high school being OBSESSED with Ryan Philippe and HATING Reese Witherspoon because she was married to him. Didn't they get divorced because he couldn't handle the fact that Reese became this massive star while he was washed up after a few movies?
The sophomore year of SVU is a special brand of failure. Are we really supposed to care if Elizabeth gets with Sam Burgess? (Better question, are we supposed to care if Elizabeth gets with anyone?
Although, I must say I find Todd's storylines to be the best of his entire existence here, since he is a deadbeat "townie" living in some sleazy apartment and working in a bar. Of course, this all gets ruined in this book, as Todd realizes that he can leech off his parents and suddenly decide to go back to school. No one cares about you anymore Todd. Elizabeth is soon to be off to England to fall in love with royalty and further forget of your existence.
I think all the Sophomore books should be renamed "Liz and Sam Sort of Get Together and Everyone Else Gets Fogotten." Since, you know, that's pretty much the only thing that happens from book 48 onwards.
Haha, that's EXACTLY what Lila is like! Her only appearance in the entire book and she's a total snob. But I guess that's why we love Lila - because she's better than everyone else :)
This recap reminded me exactly WHY I always hated Chloe so much. Why was she there? What purpose did she serve? (Other than making me skip all the chapters about her!)
I completely agree! I was religiously reading my way through all the SVU books from my library at the age of 13 or so, but didn't make it to the end of the series because I hit 'Secret Love Diaries: Chloe'. I think the true pointlessness of SVU finally dawned upon me...
I read most of the later SVU books when I was a kid (that's all my library had) but I honestly didn't remember anything about Chloe, except that she went on a mad shopping spree and bought sexy underwear. Because, really, that's pretty much the only interesting thing she did!
I can't believe they replaced Lila and Bruce and all the cool people...with Chloe.
I don't think I ever read that diary. I did read Sam's, where he got together with Lila...which seemed totally insane.
