Wait a minute. Liz wanted to dress up as Sojourner Truth for a costume party? Does anyone think that that's highly inappropriate, and racially insensitive, in light f what Truth wrote about? Also Jess' hair turned orange after using temporarily brown dye? Heck, even if she used permeant dye, there's no way that it would make her a carrot top. I'm beginning to suspect that the ghostwriters don't do nearly as much research as they should!
I actually wrote a short paragraph about how her costume was a bizarre/slightly offensive choice on the part of the ghostwriters, but I couldn't get it to hang together right and I ended up cutting it. But yeah...racial insensitivity and Sweet Valley kinda go hand in hand, am I right?
Literally this book should be named Elizabeth the Jerk instead of Steven the Zombie.
Isn't that true for most the books?
Also, I recapped a SVT book that had a Valentine's Day plot and in it Jess had to sing Feelings in front of the entire cafeteria. I wonder if that was a favorite song for one of the ghosties.
You know, I don't see why Jessica felt the need to be so secretive about her "dress". I would think that the other Unicorns would have been impressed that Jessica decided to imitate Scarlett. I mean, she not only looked like her but acted like her too.
I've been spending entirely too much time reading these recaps during quarantine. I found this comm years after it died and read my favorites/most of SVH. Now I'm filling in holes...
Because I've read so many now, I can point out that I refuse to believe that Lila would ever EVER want square-dancing at her party. Fail, ghostwriter. might actually be incorrect. As @isabelquinn noted Also, Lila has spent chapter two complaining about the new square dance unit in gym class, only to open chapter three by yelling “swing your partners, do-si-do!” and pulling Jessica across the gym against her will. I kind of love the idea that Lila secretly adores square dancing, it’s like Bender wanting to be a folk singer.

How come there wasn’t a Steven secret diary? Definitely would have been interesting
