SVH #30 Jealous Lies; or Let's Sing a Song of Five. How Many is Five?

Have you ever noticed how the lyrics to Sesame Street eerily parallel the Sweet Valley lifestyle?

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet.
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Calico Street.

Although, if Sesame Street was like Sweet Valley, the cookie monster would have an eating disorder, Oscar the Grouch ( Read more... )

Lisa: Dad, what's a muppet?
Homer: Well, it's not quite a mop, and it's not quite a puppet, but man... [laughs hysterically] So to answer your question I don't know.

I love Homer. That's one of my favourite Simpsons quotes.

Also, I love your usage of the typewriter. I loved him too.

Great recap!!!

I randomly came across Typewriter Guy while researching Sesame Street for my recap (yes, I research my recaps, I'm a total nerd), and I just had to use the image.

And the Simpsons quote makes me LMAO for reasons I can't explain, so I had to cram it into the recap even though it really didn't fit anywhere.

Hey, Simpsons quotes fit anywhere.

but here's one that really does fit:

Moe: Homer, that's the stupidest story I ever heard, and I read the entire SWEET VALLEY HIGH series.'

WIN!

I know. Since I read that quote a few months ago, I've been saying it everwhere. People think I'm odd.

i always wonder what is going on when they have books that don't heavily feature the twins. it reminds me of the old doctor who episodes where the doctor is being held captive or unconscious or something and the episode features the companions exclusively, because the actors playing the doctor were on vacation. maybe the twins are on vacation?

The twins are probably on their many vacations they take in the Super Editions. When you have 12 Spring Breaks and 12 Xmas's to fit in, I guess you don't have much time for regular old SVH books.

I like it when the twins aren't around much, cause we get to see the other characters in more depth. That's why I've always liked the Super Star books so much.

I read this one, but almost fell asleep. The generic bitchiness and Wakefield perfection got to me.

Didn't they pull the same 'pretend we aren't upset you're leaving' crap with Liz when she wanted to go to Switz. to pursue her dream and both twins when they wanted to go to college early? Because lifelong dreams are shit compared to STAYING IN SWEET VALLEY.

How often does Steve come home anyway? Doesn't he even study?

I never read the going to Switz book. But they stole the plot from #17 Love Letters, when the 'rents want to move the twins to San Fransisco. Book #30 even references book #17. To think, Francine was running out of ideas even in book #30.

I think Steven comes home so often cause being a regular joe a SVU must be a shock to the system. At home he's a part of the god-like Wakefields, a family revered by the entire town.

I think so. It makes me wonder what they'd do if that plan failed. Shoot out the person's kneecaps?

Sweet Valley. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

I still remember my thougths when I first read this as a h.s. sophomore: "Water ballet? Water ballet? WATER BALLET?! IN HIGH SCHOOL?!? God, Sweet Valley High is the best place EVER!" :)

And:

"Oh, that Jess. It seems Tom was straight until she turned him. Maybe she could have that printed on t-shirts: turning 'em gay since '86."

Oh, we need an avatar with that!

I would have sucked with the water ballet thing. I can barely swim.

Don't they call it synchronised swimming nowadays? I kept writing that in my recap, and when I checked the book, I realised it said 'water ballet.'
