The Unicorn Club #19: The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

Jul 09, 2008 15:54

This is the first Unicorn Club book I’ve ever recapped, which is weird because this is the SV series I’ve read most of. I’ve read 22 out of its 23 books, or 95.65% of the series (yes, I worked it out mathematically, yes, I know it’s sad).

Mandy keeps catching her looking down her top, “as if she expected her bust to appear in one big burst of Slenderella development”.
I love Mandy. I love that she's so stupid yet so wise. And she beat cancer, in case you didn't know.

Oh, crap. Why do I love the Unicorn Club books so much?

there's a severe lack of ellen in this one.

the treatments aren’t really going to make them healthy or look like models.

Oh, Jess. You'll learn. It may not do both, but it should cover the second one well enough.

Lila “pulled her hair back off her face, so that her emerging resemblance to Katherine Pierce would be more noticeable”. Roflmao. Why does she think her face will start looking like Katherine’s?...maybe the food deprivation has gone to her head.

I think by "emerging resemblance" she means "the emerging lines of my skull."

Ha, crazy.

Although I don't quite get the sticking-out-ribs thing, even if it's repeated over and over in books. My ribs are always fairly visible, whether I've lost weight after being sick or gained weight after the holidays. I used to think I ought to be careful that they don't show too much, but... they always show. Not like every single rib in HD, but you know. I'm not sure ribs showing means one is by default malnourished or whatnot.

"Both Lila and Rachel feel disappointed seeing themselves on TV, thinking they look exactly the same as when they started at Slenderella. Cheer up girls, the camera adds ten pounds."

I don't know why, but this struck me as hilarious and kind of bitchy. But in a good way!
