Another hopeless recapper ...

Jun 06, 2008 17:31

I know I'm not the first to ask this.  Help!  How does the lj cut work?  I tried doing it both ways (Rich text and HTML) and I've read the FAQ about it, but every time I preview my post, it doesn't show any links.

I'm nervous cuz I have an SVU Secret Love Diary recap ready!  Can someone pretty please try to talk me through this?

recapper: annakelly, non-book recap

it won't show in your preview- try posting it to your own journal, then looking at the journal. if you see the link posted as an entry, it worked.
can't wait to read your recap!

Here's how you do it-- but you need to replace the square brackets [] with pointy brackets <> that you normally use in html coding.

[lj-cut text="The Witty Comment that You Use in Your Cut"]

I think the thing that gets a lot of people is remembering the dash between "lj" and "cut" since other LJ codes don't use a dash.

that always gets to me when I try and type out user names and comms, because I use the dash.

You can also try using a program to update your LJ or this comm. Just search google for "semagic".

I find it easiest to just click the little cut icon (it looks like a piece of paper torn in half). Then a box will pop up and you type your link info in (or don't and it will say, "Read More"). You type everything you want to appear after the cut into the gray box. Good luck!

I'm sorry this explanation is so long, you've probably already got most of this but I can totally sympathize. I was SO embarrased posting my first recap becase I had NO IDEA how to do this LJ cut thing until I went over to a friend's house and after she showed me, I couldn't beleve how easy it was ( ... )

Thanks v. v. much for your very thurough instructions! It means a lot to me when someone takes the time to help me, especially since I'm relatively new to Live Journal.

And thank you to everyone else who has left their comments. Happily, my recap is now up, the lj cut works, and it's ready for you to read! Squee!
