Long time, I know.

Hey everyone! How is life in the lj world? I've meandered in a time or two to check on things, but have let things slide on my own journal - as you might have noticed. Sorry ( Read more... )

A question for you, assuming it's not too personal (just tell me to mind my own business if it is), but did your Dad have PET scans done to find these cancers?

Not too personal. :) Yes. He had PET scans and MRI's and full body scans and a brain MRI. Why do you ask?

My brother, who works at a hospital (he does insurance stuff), tells me PET scans, if done often enough, can make cancer cells grow faster because of the large amounts of radiation it uses. My understanding was that it would take awhile for that to happen.

I ask because of the statement about your mother making fruit smoothies and fruit plates for your dad. If those cancers show up on PET scans, that means they NEED sugar, specifically glucose. Anything that is or will metabolize to glucose is fuel for cancer. This includes most fruits ( ... )

Good to hear you are doing well out there. Additionally I hope things continue to go well and get better with your dad, I know how draining that fight can be, been watching my dad fight it(quite successfully thankfully) for a little over a year now.

I'm really glad to here that! My dad's cancer is stage IV - meaning that while it's treatable, it's not "curable", so he'll have it for the rest of his life, we're just hoping to "keep it in check" so that the rest of his life is still a good long time. =)

You're right - I did misunderstand, or rather, missed a word or two. That's what I get for doing this kind of stuff at work. =/

Turns out Mom has done a lot of research and investigating on this, and she sent me a ridiculously long email about it which I have yet to read all the way through.

I'll get through it and send on her thoughts soon. =)

How are you doing, btw? How are you handling all those many life changes??

No problem, and no offense taken if you determine that it's all nonsense to be disregarded. I just felt it had to be said so you could make up your own mind.

And I'm glad that your Mom is researching; you wouldn't believe the number of people who passively accept whatever advice or drugs a medical doctor will give... or maybe you would. ::hugs:: I hope your dad pulls through this and beats it.

I'm doing so good, it's hard to imagine I was in grad school only a couple of months ago. I haven't been this happy in a long, long time. Makes me wonder why I did it at all now, but I had sound reasoning when I started, I swear...
