I'm a lifelong trekkie who started watching because my parents were excited for it, and we only had the one TV. My sister and I watched "The Man Trap" - S1, E1, in a state of terror over the salt monster. I remember practically hiding behind my dad on the couch at one point, lol. In my defense, it was really scary and I was five. But having gotten

As a fan of Anson's before this, I am delighted with his portrayal of Pike...and am enamored with Ortegas too. She's my favorite 'new' character.
And I fell in love with MBenga in the books...and am giddy about having him back in such a perfect iteration.
SNW is the Star Trek I've been missing for years and I'm thrilled to have a ST back that feels so much like TOS <3

I don't know many of the actors - which is how I kind of like it, I prefer not to have pre-conceived images of them from other shows. I'm not sure I've ever seen Anson Mount in anything but he is just knocking it out of the park so much. The writers based the circular table in his quarters (where the crew can dine together) on how he treats the character and works with the ensemble. True leader.
The actor playing Spock - he both captured Nimoy's voice but also made it his own. I know what you mean about fangirling; every time he talks my heart warms up.
And as much as I'm a McCoy fan, I do hope they keep MBenga for the long haul. He's this crew's doc.
I agree re: the show- I told my niece it has both the idealism and occasional campiness of TOS, the positivity of Next Gen, and the grittiness and darker edge in places of DS9. Cannot wait for S2.

And Una I know from The Librarians...and I believe XMen (and a few other places I can't recall off the top of my head). The actor playing MBenga I believe was in a Dr. Who episode...but I don't know any of the rest from anywhere else. (outside of seeing Ethan & Anson in Discovery as Pike and Spock of course ;) )
Christine is the one that feels the most 'off' from what she becomes later to me...but there's room for her to grow in that direction, just like Uhura, so I'm game to role with it.
I was devastated when Nimoy died...and still am. Spock was such a pivotal character for me in my younger years that having him 'live on' does my heart good. I think Leonard would be pleased with his portrayal.
Yes...having people to geek out over Trek with is awesome. My daughter's a McCoy fan but she's not really into Star Trek beyond that. ;)

I'll disappoint you now - I never watched TOS. But, because of Troy, I got into TNG and LOVED it. And I've enjoyed everything I've seen since.
Not watched this new series yet though. I liked Discovery, but I love Picard! And I'm assuming it's because these are the characters that drew me into the whole universe. Anyway... once I'm done with the Bob's Burgers movie, maybe this is what I need to start on? :D
