Three Bean and Root Vegetable Soup

Mar 25, 2008 16:58

I have discovered the joy of dried beans and root vegetables! I find the cheapest dry beans in the Mexican ethnic food area of my grocery store. I just made up this recipe today and it makes roughly 5qts of soup. But based on other soups I've made, this should freeze well.

Souper! )

That looks great.

Questions: Celerac - do you mean celery? Or celeriac?

What is rutabaga? (for a UK-er, maybe we call it something different?)

You probably know it as a turnip, though it is grown about your parts, just probably named differently.

I think lovelokest is right and it's a swede, although they're pretty much the same and probably interchangeable. Turnips are the white ones, I'm pretty sure. Thanks! But now I'm thinking about turnips being grown about my parts. *winces*

*facepalm* I meant celeriac, thanks for pointing it out, have changed it!

I think it's called Swede over there (basing on my already sketchy memory that is overloaded with cell biology at the moment *g*)
