Lovely story! I really like the two-part format, the rescue and the impossibility of rescue. I thought you had Sam's voice really nicely, and also the emotion surrounding Gene's passing felt very true.

It also leaves me with a burning desire for a sequel in which Sam does something particularly noteworthy which is brought to the attention of Superintendent Skelton . . . ;-)

LOZ LOZ LOZ. I've just found this and I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.

Sam thinking about the statistics while performing CPR. And Gene buying all his drinks afterwards! :D But mostly the fact you nearly drowned Gene and had Sam dive in after him and bring him back to life. That just presses all my buttons, right there. ♥

And then you broke me with Sam's numb shock in the second part. D: Brilliant, brilliant writing.
