Three weeks, that’s how long Christine has been kept captive by Dracula, how long she has been tortured, and it’s been over a month now since she has returned to the him, to life. He can’t believe it’s over, that she, of all, is free, the last heir in the line of the hunters, people from beyond blessed with knowledge that escapes humanity and cursed with the vow of destroying the evil that walks Earth. Dracula should have killed her- if not only because her mother killed his favorite wife a long time before- but he didn’t. somehow she set herself free.
It should be a blessing, but he knows what it is-a blessing in disguise, because he already knows. He knows what will happen, he knows what he will have to do, and it breaks his heart, in a way he has never felt possible, something worse than when his mother died because of a mistake he did.
The couple sits at the table, calmly, just the candlelight illuminating their features; the woman looks at the man with something in her eyes- love and devotion - and her laughter fills the room, filling his heart as well, and breaking it in millions of pieces at the same time, shattering it beyond repair. It’s been over a month since last time he has seen her so full of live, and it’s simply beautiful. He has missed it, missed her, and having her back, like this, even better, it’s just… it’s perfect. It’s heaven.
Only, it’s not, and he knows it too well, even if he can’t say it at loud. Not yet, at least.
He keeps asking, with a small smile gracing his lips, masking his word beyond sarcasm and pure curiosity. She laughs, shaking her head in disbelief while she takes his hand and guide him towards her bedroom, laughing all the time.
“Sorry, I’m just curious, I guess. Work can get the better out of me at times.”
“It’s all right, Pete, I don’t mind your questions… just give me a second…” Then, the moment comes, and while in the process of undressing for him in her bedroom, her almost naked body shining and reflecting the light of the moon with its paleness, she attacks him, her teeth shining in the dark, and he attacks her in return, his hand colliding with her chin, sending her against the wall.
“Where’s he, Chris? Where’s Dracula? Tell me where he keeps Brian!”
She grins, her smile evil, maniac. “You’ll never find him, Pete. Ask me as many questions as you like, you’ll never find him…”
He cups her cheek, with almost devotion, love and pain in his tears as he gets closer to her, craving a last kiss from a woman he’ll never be able to kiss any longer. “I’m sorry it has to come to this.”
He doesn’t add anything else, doesn’t say another word. He simply stakes her with a wood brick, and walks away while the smoke of her burning body fills his lugs.
His heart is shattered beyond repair, always will be.
