thank you - the Maple Avenue pictures were all about the ambient light; I just happened to walk by at the right time. Maple's crop was driven in part by the presence of a large dark tree trunk just to the R of where she is sitting, but that would have been the right place to crop it anyway. I put the trunk between myself and her while changing lenses and then moved to the side to get the picture. I'm not sure she would have stayed in that pose otherwise.
before adopting her humans she had spent some time on her own and hasn't completely resocialised. that's neither a good or a bad thing, it's just who she is: even more of an on-her-terms cat than most.

yes, she is, and I was quite fortunate to photograph her at all.
in her case, though, I think the correct term is Grrrl.
