Jaye could just tell something was off when she woke up that morning. She couldn't tell WHAT, but it was SOMETHING. The animals weren't speaking, which was both a good and a bad sign, so no matter how many sour glares she threw their way, they remained impassive and quiet. Even the wax lion refused to budge. Her right eye felt twitchy from the effort of glaring, but eventually Jaye decided she was beating a dead horse. She wouldn't figure out WHAT was up by hanging around her trailer all day, no matter how secure and comforting it was. And she couldn't exactly STOP whatever weird thing she suspected was happening to her unless she KNEW what that weird thing was. Which would only confirm that something weird was happening. It was kind of a catch 22, but sometimes it felt like Jaye's whole life was a catch 22, so she wasn't OVERLY annoyed by it.

She struck out in the direction of the Compound, stomach grumbling for coffee, and found the path that led her there soon enough. There were perks to living as far away from civilization's ass crack as possible. Getting to the perks of civilization quickly was not one of them.
