It's Nobel Prize Time! I love Nobel Prize time. I can't really explain why. I always think they're going to pick at least a writer I've heard of for the Literature prize, but then they end up giving it to some Indonesian poet whose work has never been translated into English or something. The only book I had read before the author received Nobel Prize was Jelinek's Piano Teacher, and I wish I hadn't, it left me feeling disturbed for a week. Then again, that was before I knew about kink memes, I guess I wouldn't be so upset if I read it again now.

I haven't read that. I used to work in a bookstore and read a LOT. (I kept track and read about 80 books a year for awhile.) I went through a phase where I decided to read a bunch of Nobel Laureates' works, but I never got to Jelinek. I kind of got stuck on Naguib Mahfouz, whom I turned out to adore, and now I've read almost everything he wrote. I was really sad when he died a couple years ago.

Are you sure there isn't a nobel prize fandom? Cracky manips of the peace award winners shooting missiles at each other? Fandom divided by which author or economist they think should have won? Fanfic shipping various candidates with one another? No?

It would so not surprise me to find out this fandom exists. I would believe any fandom exists after reading f!s.
