"Watson, what have you done?"

After waiting six months for this movie to be released, I finally got to see Sherlock Holmes last night.  Because I've read nearly all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels and short stories, my expectations for the film were pretty high and I was worried about being disappointed.  Well, I shouldn't have been so concerned because the movie was more ( Read more... )

I'm so glad you liked it! I saw it yesterday and had a blast.

It's nice to know that people who know Holmes like the movie. I saw it with my sis aunt_deen who falls into that category. (I'll have to bring her over here.) She loved it too.

I agree with you that there was enough detectiving to balance out the cage-fighting and diving from towers. :-) They focused a lot on what Holmes was observing and made that pay off in the end. And I liked the line about not making the facts bend to the theory, but the other way round. (I can't remember the exact words.)

Since your post is spoiley, I don't mind mentioning my favorite line: "No girl wants to marry a doctor who can't tell whether a man is dead." I'm sure that's NOT from the short stories, but I LOLed.

I'm glad you liked it, too, and it's great to hear that a fellow Holmes reader like your sister enjoyed it! I was so excited that RDJ was doing Holmes, but also worried at the same time that his version would be nothing at all resembling the Holmes I know from the books. I was relieved, to say the least.

I LOVE that line! So funny (and no, it's definitely not from the stories!). The banter between Holmes and Watson in the movie was perfect. RDJ and Jude Law should do more stuff together.
