I'm sorry you have to move again. Any chance you can buy this time?

That would be great, but we have credit problems and I have huge student loans to boot, but more importantly, you can't buy a 3 bedroom house in this county for less than $400,000 (and that would be a fixer-upper) which would leave us with a greater house payment than we could swing. I wish there was a way for us to buy, though--we would love to own our own home, esp. since we are sure we want to stay here now.

I'm so sorry!! What awful news. I hate moving too, and having it sprung on you like this is rotten. You may have started out thinking this was a short term thing, but it sounds like, given the way things had developed, this is still really surprising news. I hope you find a place you all really like, and that you can stay in the neighborhood you love.

The one good thing that has ever coming out of the unpleasant experience of picking up and moving (for me), is the opportunity to declutter. Maybe this can be a chance for your family to reassess what's really loved in your home and get rid of some of the extra that's getting in the way?
