I liked Splice because it was hilariously ridiculous and kind of awesome that way. I watch a lot of fucked up horror movies (omg Martyrs is 10000% more disturbing) so Splice is seriously nothing.

I actually got in my first ever LJ argument/discussion with strangers on the internet about it! people are dismissing it as racist/sexist/ablist (lol ablist, because apparently Dren is a real human child with Down's Syndrome, o ok) and not bothering to think any harder about it

Now I'm creeped out because I'm thinking about Martyrs :(

See, the thing I hated was that none of the fucked up things that kept happening made sense, or were consistent with the plot or characterizations. Apparently we're supposed to believe that Adrian Brody, when confronted with a naked female, loses ALL CONTROL OF HIMSELF and just HAS TO HAVE SEX WITH HER. Also, even though Dren gets most of its characteristics from human behaviour, this is immedietly overrided when she becomes male so she can KILL ALL OTHER MALES AND RAPE THE ONLY WOMAN AROUND. And there's really no reason for Girl Scientist to want to keep the child after all that fuckery ( ... )

Haha see I kind of disagree about Cannibal Holocaust, it felt like most of the fucked up things (like all the animal killing - I mean, killing it to eat makes sense, but brutalizing the fuck out of them beforehand doesn't) were really pointless ( ... )

Just- about Cannibal Holocaust. I felt like the reason they kept showing this horrific violence wast so the audience could understand who the characters were. They were missing a piece of their own humanity, which allowed them to do these horrible things for sensationalism. At the same time it could be a critique of the movie industry, and implying that to be successful/popular you have to lose your morality because that's what people want. idk.

but those are good points about Splice. I hadn't really thought of it that way, and it definitely makes things a lot less convoluted. Yes, we'll talk about it on Wednesday!

Aw, I thought it was major fuckery, which came out of NOWHERE (I thought the movie was sci fi horror).

I agree with your commenter dayswithbunnies that there is something else going on in the movie, although they were excessive at times (ahahahaha I laughed SO HARD at the Fred and Ginger massacre ( ... )
