Zero was angry.
It had taken two days to maneuver fate into putting Wyatt Cain at his feet. Trackers were surrounding the city, waiting to grab the Tin Man's conspirators once their guard went down.
He'd planned everything, all the way down to the victory speech he would give Cain before putting the man out of his - Zero's - misery.
He hadn't expected Cain to show up alone.
He hadn't expected one man to evade all his trackers.
He hadn't expected one man to leave the city in six directions.
He hadn't expected Cain to be stupid enough to go home.
Wyatt should have known he hadn't outsmarted Zero. The plan was actually pretty flawless - flawed as it was. The Mystic Man had taught him well, not to mention most of the criminals he'd put away during the span of his career as a Tin Man.
Wyatt was, if anything, a man of his word. He said "all the way" and he meant it.
Jeb and Adora were safe as long as he was away from them; having them near put him off guard and he couldn’t risk feeling anything.
Not now.
Feelings made a man weak.
Weak didn't win wars.
"You could have stayed in the city," Zero said with an eerie calm. "Taken it like a man." Even beaten, bloody and bruised, Wyatt managed to roll his eyes - barely - which only made Zero want to hit him again.
"Instead, you came running home to your family," he sneered the last word, as if the concept alone was disgusting. "You brought this on them." Zero grimaced and prepared for another punch.
"You bring me... all the way... out... to this godforsaken place..." he mused between punches. "For what?" he asked, grabbing Wyatt's chin and jerking his head up.
"You lose."
