Dec 7, 2007 The castle was silent, the excitement of the last few days dying down hours before. The Longcoats had been ordered to stand down; the scientists confined to quarters. Now, the royal family sat in conference.
Azkadellia had been through the ringer the last 15 years, and it was showing. She’d been quiet most of the evening, so used to being trapped in her own mind. She wanted to speak to Gli- Ambrose; apologize, while knowing that it would never be enough. To Cain - his wife would still be alive had she not forced the Resistance into being. Her mother - the things she’d done to her, locking her away.
DG was sitting down with their mother, telling her about the dreams, her trip through a tornado and her adventures leading to their current situation. Ahamo and Cain were in discussion away from the girls and Glitch was standing off to the side with the lion. Az didn’t know his name, but was sure he was somehow related to Lylo.
Lylo. She needed to get down to the prison level and see to his release. She didn’t know, however, that Cain, Glitch and Raw had already taken care of the seer. Az was torn. She wanted to be with her family, pretend everything was back to normal; but couldn’t bare the look in their eyes, the apologies for her situation. It was all too much for her to take in, as her senses were still heightened from the witch’s residual powers.
Closing her eyes, Az began breathing heavily and stepped back toward the door, wanting - needing - to get out of the room, away from all this... joy. She jumped as a hand grasped hers. Following the arm to its owner, Az found herself face to face with Raw.
She tried to look away, not wanting to meet his gaze. “Concerned for you. Happy you have returned,” he said in a low tone, motioning to her family. She forced a smile and looked away again. “Heart is good. Mind is strong.” A tear slipped down Az’s cheek.
Raw gave her hand a squeeze, causing Az to, again, look from their grasp to the man-lion. She saw no pity in is eyes. Only compassion. “We will get through.”
Az could no longer hold back the tears and tried to smile, but her legs gave out first. DG stopped mid-sentence and rushed to her big sister’s side.
“Az?” Taking a few deep breaths, Raw still holding her hand, Az stated,
“I’m all right.” Looking at her sister, Az almost laughed at the memory of a similar look on DG’s face. As the others neared, Az looked at each of them, then back up to Raw.
“I’ll be all right.”
