Jeb Cain led his horse along the road and stopped once the house came into view. He'd only been out here the one time, but that trip had been a special circumstance. It wasn't that he wanted to make this trip, but it was one he never expected to make.
Dismounting, Jeb decided he'd rather walk the distance of the road than ride. He made it to the edge of the fence and still didn’t know what to say to his friend, his brother.
How could he get Gabe Kelly to see how foolish he was acting, hiding out here?

Gabe spotted Jeb through the window and slowly stepped onto the porch. Jeb tied his horse to the fencepost and moved silently to the base of the steps leading up to the porch and glanced up to Gabe without saying a word.
"Jeb," Gabe finally acknowledged with a nod.
"Gabe," Jeb responded, also nodding.
"What brings you by?" Jeb breathed out and glanced over his shoulder, seeing the headstones under the tree. Turning back, Jeb shook his head. 'Aw, forget it.'
"You're a fool, Gabe Kelly."
"You came all the way out here to tell me that?"
"I met Harper."
