Jamie looked up at the sound of Candice's voice, fiddling absently with a paper clip.

He nodded. "I guess so. Everyone started taking off about a half hour ago."

Leaning back in the chair, he twisted the bit of metal until it broke in half. "I thought I'd wait till you got here. You know, so you wouldn't think you had to run after someone."

That, and the thought of going home to an empty house is a little too frightening to deal with right now.

"Great," she sighed, leaning back against the wall. "Thanks." Next time, I'll remember to charge my cell before I leave.

No mission meant more free time than she'd had in a week, meant going home to Jimmy. She glanced at her watch. No, he wouldn't be home yet.

"You look like shit," she added, still working to catch her breath.

Blinking slightly at the bluntness of her words, Jamie shook his head. "Yeah, I guess I do."

Paperclip number two snapped under the focus of his agitation. A half-hearted sigh and he rubbed at his eyes, giving Candice a wry smile. "Haven't slept much lately. I should probably just go home but..."

Can't be home when he's not there. Too much like before.

She nodded. He didn't have to explain.

"Can't stay here either, it's depressing." Which wasn't to say that he didn't look depressed already. She sighed. Things had been hard between the four of them lately, in almost every combination possible, and it wasn't about to get better, if intel was right.

She eyed her cell one more time, deciding it wasn't going to ring no matter how much she started at it. They're fine.

"Come on," she glanced back at Jamie. "I'll buy you a drink."

Jamie stood automatically, her offer not registering with him until he was halfway out the door behind her.

"A drink?" he repeated belatedly, trying for a smile. "We drink together now?"
