By the time they returned to the apartment, truck bed full of shopping bags and one quickly-drying pine, the sun was sinking fast in the sky.

Kirin was taking advantage of having the apartment completely to himself and had spent the day taking part of his favorite daylight activity: sleep. The pounding on the door was enough to rouse him out of bed, and he shuffled through the apartment in his pajamas to answer the door.

He pouted when he saw that it was only Jamie. "You have a key."

"Hello to you, too," Jamie told him, leaning forward and pecking him on the lips.

"Look," he announced, pointing behind him. "Christmas tree."

Kirin squinted to look past Jamie to see that there was a tree. He covered his eyes with a hand and shook his head while smiling in amusement.

"Oh. A Christmas tree. Where are you going to put it?" he asked teasingly, pretending to block the door with his body.

Jamie gave him his best sad puppy expression, stepping closer and winding his arms around Kirin's waist.

"But if there's no tree, where am I going to put your present?"

"You could just give me the present," Kirin nodded sagely while he backed away from the door, tugging Jamie with him. He stole a quick kiss and murmured, "Fine, but if it sheds you have to clean it up."
