Charlie glanced up from working behind the counter (did she ever do anything else?) at the sound of the door opening.

Another customer, she acknowledged. She quickly grabbed a menu from the side of the register and headed over to him.

"Hello," she smiled, "welcome to the Burnt Toast Diner!" She offered him the menu. "Would you like something to drink?"

"Coffee?" Peter asked, taking the menu and opening it, skimming the selection there for a few moments. Yeah, he'd probably need a few minutes.

He turned his eyes from the menu and looked back up at the waitress, smiling a little at her. "Any chance you could make it an Irish one?" he added, only half kidding. Yeah, it was the middle of the day but he'd been grounded the night before. The occasion called for a drink.

"I can do coffee," Charlie said brightly. "Although, I'm afraid I can't make it an Irish one. There's a bar down the street," she added, whisperingly. "But don't tell anyone I told you where it was. They think I don't know anything." Which, was more or less, the truth.

"I'll be right back with your coffee."

She headed back towards the counter and quickly grabbed the new pot from the warmer.

Peter laughed softly, passing his hand through his hair. He put his elbow on the table, resting the side of his head against his fist as he looked down at the menu again, eyeing the sandwiches section.

"I was kidding," he told her when she came back with his coffee. "About the Irish part." She probably thought he was a drunk. Which he wasn't... yet.

"It's just been a really long couple of days."

Charlie poured him a cup of coffee, and looked at him sympathetically. "You do look like you've had a rough couple of days. And I know you were joking," she added, "but I wasn't," she added with a wink. "Decided what you'd like yet or would you like a couple extra minutes?"

Peter let out a soft laugh, under his breath and it really sounded more like a sigh then a laugh. He reached for his mug and took a sip of coffee, nodding in approvement. It wasn't half bad. He'd had worse even in New York.

"Umm... a cheeseburger?" he glanced up at her, closing the menu and handing it to her.

And his head had some amazing timing, picking now to start hurting. "And an aspirin?"
