Peter picked his head up from the pillow--sleeping off a hangover was hard when you couldn't sleep--and glanced towards his bedroom door when he heard someone knocking. Probably his damn neighbors.

He'd just put his head down when the person knocked again and he swore under his breath. So ignoring them would only make them knock more. Guess he'd have to go chase the person away with his crankiness. He rolled out of bed, wincing when his head gave a particularly sharp throb. He was definitely going to sleep when he chased this person away.

Peter undid the chain slowly because noise made his head throb harder and opened the door a crack. Not neighbors. Worse--Nathan.

"Now... is not a good time," he mumbled, resting his head against the doorframe.

"I figured," he said quietly. "I'm not gonna lecture you or anything. I just don't want you alone right now."

"I'm fine," Peter retorted, glad that Nathan had used the quiet voice. Loud, shouty voice would probably make his head actually split open. "I was just going to go to bed..." At four in the afternoon.

"I don't know if you remember what I was like the first time Heidi and I were separated for long," Nathan said, still quiet. "The thing is, I know a bit of how you're feeling, and you're my brother. I'm not leaving you alone for this."

He offered Peter a brief smile. "Besides, it'll hold more weight with Dad if I call from here to tell him we can't make it tonight because you're sick."

"Heidi wasn't nine years younger then you and she didn't live in Texas," Peter muttered, stepping away from the door because the room was starting to spin and sitting--lying--down seemed like a really good idea right now.

"You know he's not going to care if I'm sick," he added after he'd flopped down on his couch. "You should go to dinner. They like you better anyway."
