They were the only words his mind could process at that moment, sitting frozen in his chair and staring down at the picture. Alex was hissing into the phone, scribbling something down on the paper. The temperature in the room had spiked dramatically.
Fuck.
He watched as the man clenched the phone, jaw set in fury, the picture of his daughter still imprinted on the back of his eyelids. Waiting to be told what to do.
Even though his thoughts were racing, Alex couldn't think. The only thought in his mind was that his daughter was in danger. He crumpled the page in his hand, the action snapping him out of his initial shock.
Alexander went back to his computer and quickly punched in the seemingly random letters and numbers spoken by the anonymous voice. It was an access code, a familiar one. Case files filled the screen, names, addresses, and not-so-surprisingly the vast amounts of ill-gotten funds that were funneled to Linderman.
"So this is what this is about..." Alexander growled, his temper only rising. His daughter getting kidnapped and in danger over this? He wasn't even directly involved in the case.
He was now. And it was personal. He stood from his desk and went to his safe, opening it quickly to reveal a hidden firearm and ammunition. It wasn't until he made his way to the door that he paid attention to the other man.
"You're off the hook. Shouldn't get involved in this."
"Suit yourself." Alexander didn't want to waste time arguing. He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed. "Tom, they have Lucy. Where the fuck are you? Hurry back."
He hung up and dialed again, "Thorn, access seven nine five zero, I need a location on Vorena, Lucy. I will be down in two minutes, you better have something for me." It was the first and possibly the only time he would be grateful that his daughter was tagged.
After he hung up the cell and pocketed, he pressed the button on the elevator that led to the floors only few had access to, looking to Lance and offering a brief explanation.
"The Caelians, an organization Linderman did business with some years ago. I helped put one of the bosses away and funnel most of their resources to Linderman in the process. They want their money back. They can't go after Linderman direct. They've picked on one of the underlings involved, try to force his hand." He tightened his hand in a fist, seconds away from punching the wall. "They could have gotten their money, not now."
Fucking mob. Knew it. Lance filed away the name Linderman as well as what Alex had told him, trying to stay focused on the present. In which fucking mobsters had kidnapped the other man's daughter.
"Will they hurt her?" he asked, hands in his pockets.
If the answer was yes, he had no fucking qualms about bringing the building down on their fucking heads.
