Oh My GAWD, Stella! Talk about a bullseye. This is Thom in a nutshell for me. He's fucked up, he knows he's fucked up, and he knows Cal knows it too but doesn't want to face it. Cal is too invested in hanging on to his first love to admit the truth. Thom loves Cal, and wants to be truly seen by him, but knows if that happens they're over. For whatever reason, Thom craves something he's not getting from Cal; even he may not know what it is. So they're both just hanging on to something that's doomed, because they're afraid to be without it.

Totally loved this, Stella. You really got into the confusion of Thom's thoughts. I don't even think he knows why he does what he does or what he wants from Cal and his relationship. But he's really hurting too.

Stella, this was such a beautifully written look at Thom's Psyche. I think you are completely right. Thom wants to be the kind of person who commits to a relationship, but doesn't know how, and fears being found out for the messed up person he truly is. He does love Cal, but can't seem to keep himself from hurting him. Your writing is so emotional and compelling, and helped shed some light on Thom. Great. job!
