http://www.naturalnews.com/035630_police_raid_activists_lawsuit.html Recently, someone here requested ideas for foods to keep in her pantry. I thought I'd offer a response via a post. This might be useful to others, esp. newer members.
The top five superfoods to always keep stocked in your pantry(NaturalNews) What is a superfood? Me:
I keep a lot of dried foods stored up because buying in bulk
(?!) not only saves money, it saves me exertion of shopping, as I have CFS. These are sooooo useful to have around, (even though I do prefer raw and fresh veggies, which should be a good part of the diet, IMO). I keep: LOTS of healthy sunflower seeds, which help in dieting. LOTS of oats/ GF mixed-grains, (as suggested by members of this community), which offer amino acids and B vitamins. I keep lots of RICE, brown being the healthiest. I also have dried split-peas and lentils, (fairly good quick-cookers for soups, chilis, or even for a meat substitute). Dried soybeans are also great to throw into rice dishes, etc. Red/black beans are very healthy. Also, organic cornmeal/flour, and a mix of GF flours, is used to bake or make pancakes. (Organic foods are important for essential, bioavailable sulfur). If I run out of Green Tea, I am lost. As for dry spices, I keep a lot on hand relative to health, like parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, wild oregano, turmeric, garlic, onion, pepper, mustard, lemon, plus essential oils. Fish oil is good to have around. And so is tomato powder and/or paste, for making healthy soups or spaghetti. (Nifty note: I use these spices, etc., for TEAS, too. And I no longer throw out 3x-used spices/tea leaves - I use them in my oats, soups, etc.!!)
I also have things like GF pasta, soy meat substitute, canned veggies, and oils. What else? Sprouting seeds, of course! So, I rarely have to walk to the store. When I do, carrots are the most important thing I buy.
And, for emergency foods to "Horde," here is a link. I don't have access to this site via my firewall, so. Not so sure, but:
