FullMetal Alchemist

Feb 01, 2014 13:15

So, so, so, I'm reading FullMetal Alchemist thanks to the suggestion of Leng, and the library requests of Books. I don't actually have too much intelligent to say, except that I'm loving the books much more than I thought I would.

Spoilery thoughts on books 1-12 (and a 1/2!) )

book reviews, book recommendations, fullmetal alchemist, fandoms

Whoa, wait, you like it because it's emotionally taxing? Hehe, that's one way to put it XD I get it though, you become emotionally invested in the characters that you really truly care what happens to them.

I like Ed/Winry...cuz they're funny Xd Not that I don't love Roy/Riza, too. I gather that Al and May are going to be a couple sometime in the future, and that sounds cute, too.

I don't know what icon to use, I gather I need to make some FMA ones, any requests, anybody?

"You like it because it's emotionally taxing?"

Yeah, I figured someone would pick on me if I said that ..... But the point is, like you said, you care about the characters - and you're going from one extreme to the other, every emotion is covered....

Ed/Winry are definitely funny:
"I'll throw another wrench at you if you keep fight with Al with my automail"
"WHAM"
"That wasn't a wrench, that was a chair!"

AL and May? Yeah, well right now, AL's just turned into price charming who can do no wrong, so I think I know where that one's going!! :)

UMmm..... I'll keep thinking about icon requests!! :) Thanks for the offer!! :)

Yaay! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying FMA! And I can totally understand the Roy/Riza shippy feelings!! (Apparently they're ship name is Royai... which is sort of weird.) They were actually my OTP for the most part of the series, up until like... the last page. XD Then LingFan became my OTP. Haha. But I love Roy/Riza too, and oooh, I CANNOT wait until you've read about their... uhm, "history", because it's SO good!

I agree with the way the plot twists get more intricate. At first things seem so light and fluffy, but by then end... tell me if you cry. Lol! I didn't cry, because it was a very happy ending, but I did have a lump in my throat. =P

When I first started, I really didn't think that I was going to like it, but it really just took over my heart! OMG, seeing their back story makes me want to slap Roy, and tell him that he should be EXTRA sweet to her!! :) No more flirting!! :) ESPECIALLY when she's not around! HE can flirt with her. Actually, he should do more than flirt with her. HE should marry her! (I won't say tooo much more, 'cuz Books doesn't know about their back story, yet Bwahaha!) I like when he's all like "I want you to protect my back. And shoot me in the back if I'm going off the path" It was kinda funny. And Roy is actually sooo supportive of his "troops". He won't let Havoc sit around and mope about himself ( ... )

Same. I didn't think I'd be so caught up in a "manga". I think some part of me always thought these things were just for "manga people", because manga is such a big thing when I was in junior high and high school and I was never into it then, so I felt left out and stuff ( ... )

Poor, poor Riza! You should hear Books rail against her father - "why does he think that someone who would be looking for the secret in his papers would stop at trying to get it out of a young girl???" Especially when it puts her into such a vulnerable position. Yeah, Roy's flirting is all information related, and not for real, but still, he needs to realize where his loyalties should lie!! Maybe after he's the Fuhrer he can settle down and marry her. (He can make the rules, and he can break the rules - he can also say something like "what better way to make sure I'm always under the Hawk's watchful eyes ( ... )

I would really like to understand why LanFan cut her arm off...At first, when she flipped the knife around, I nearly had a heart attack because I thought she wanted to commit suicide in order to avoid becoming a burden. But then she cut her arm off....I know that her arm was irreparably damaged, but I don't understand why cutting it off was going to make things better....Am I missing something (which I suspect to be the case XD) In any case, poor LanFan! Ling was so sweet and protective of her, he says like, three times in a row, "Take care of LanFan! Take care of LanFan!"

I think it's supposed to be a parallel to Ed's trap. When she first fought with Ed, he pulled off his automail to set up a trap for her. She copied it (there are lots of parallels actually in these books, so you have to remember a lot of the scenes, even if they don't seem important). Her arm was trailing off blood and was hindering them from making an escape. So I think in order to trick Wrath, she cut off her arm to mislead him. I guess they could have just bound her arm, and ran away, but it wouldn't give false trails, and so there'll still be a higher chance that Wrath finds them if he wasn't misled.

Lol, you thought he was sweet? I thought he was kind of cold. Like when Ed was trying to apologize, Ling was just like, "Don't apologize. It was our decision to help out." But I do get the sense that he deeply regrets it.

I thought Ling was sweet, but I'm talking about when Roy and Riza and the Dr. and Lanfan are all in the car about to leave, and Riza's in the back taking care of LanFan, and Ling says "Take care of LanFan!" at least twice before they leave, and once he's says something about getting her better medical care in Central. LOL, you don't get a much more competent nurse or anything else than Riza Hawkeye, but Ling was so worried! And when Ed was trying to apologize, I think Ling reacted that way because he felt so guilty, because he had been naive, and then he says that LanFan had more conviction then he did. And OMG, he just accepted Greed into his body because *he wouldn't go back to LanFan empty handed after what she'd done*

*EDIT* Leng, I sent the ask back to you on Tumblr, the one where you have to say nice things, I may have even sent it twice...I think Tumblr hates me XD Just wanted you to know :)

Oh, yeah, I remember! I think in the show he only said in once. I do remember Lan Fan yelling "Master!!" when the car drives away, the poor bunny! Oh yeah, Riza wouldn't coddle Lan Fan, but she'll be efficient and understanding. Especially because I think Lan Fan and Riza have very similar relationships to the men in their lives.

Yeah, I was so surprised when I found out that he accepted Greed, because it seemed a little counter-productive to their mission. I guess he also didn't foresee that Greed would control him then, and that the chances of him going back to Xing is small if Greed controls him.

I'm not sure which part are you on right now. Have you gotten to the part where Fu comes back to Lan Fan?

Hehe, I got both of them. I actually filled out the meme after someone sent it to me, but it was published privately.

Hehe, I just realized, between the three of us, we'd be shipping 3 out of the 4 main couples.

I have another question!! I just read this part where Van Hohenheim goes into that church that Ed destroyed, and he meets Pride, but Pride cannot touch him because he is too far past the edge of where Pride can go. I don't understand this, because Gluttony, Lust, Envy and all the rest seem to be able to go wherever they please? Why is Pride contained?

On another note, ED! He just got impaled, and drained his own life force to heal himself, and the chimeras have just decided that they're getting out of there regardless of the fact that Ed needs to get back to Kimblee. I'm worried about him, and Al, too, because if their theory is right, and Ed is really supporting Al's body as well as his own, then I'm worried about Al!
