Edy sat by the rear window of the girls' barracks, admiring the new pocket transceiver she received from Ramona during the winter gift exchange a few hours ago. She said she wanted to use it to "keep in touch" with Edy when the two of them weren't together on active duty. Edy wanted to try out her new toy right away, but Ramona had neglected to mention that batteries didn't come included with the gift. They would have to wait until the next morning to test them out.
As she was about to rest for the evening, Dallas walked up to her with her hands hidden behind her back.

"Hi there, Edy," she said. "What's up?"

Edy stuffed the transceiver in her pocket to hide her gift from Dallas, as she wanted to keep it a secret. "D-Dallas!" she said. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be getting ready for lights-out right now?"

"I'd ask you the same question, but...I have a surprise for you."

She handed Edy a rectangular box wrapped in red-and-white-striped paper. "I know everybody was only supposed to give out and receive one gift, but I saw this when I went out shopping, and thought you might like it."

"But should I open it? I mean, we could be reprimanded if we break the rules."

"Don't worry," said Dallas, "it'll be our little secret. Go on, open it."

Edy ripped the wrapping paper from the box and opened it to find a black wireless microphone. Immediately overcome with joy, she latched onto Dallas and gave her a great big hug. "Thank you so much, Dallas!" she cried. "I love it! Oh...but now I feel sorry that I wasn't able to get anything for you."

Dallas wrapped her arms around Edy, hoping that she could hold that pose with her for just a few minutes longer. "You don't have to go that far, Edy," she said.

"I don't?"

"Nope." She then stared into Edy's eyes, smiling seductively. "However, there is one small thing I'd really like this year, which I haven't told anyone about yet..."

"And that is...?"

"A kiss," Dallas whispered.

Edy tried to contain her surprise and refrain from yelling, as she was worried that one of the other Sevens could be listening in on them from outside. She felt her heart pound harder and faster when it became apparent that Dallas was hitting on her. "From me? But I've never done anything like that before...at least, not with another girl."

"To tell you the truth," said Dallas, "neither have I. I bet it would be nice, though. Besides, I like the way your skin feels when you hug. You have a nice, soft touch."

"Thank you. And you, uh..."

Edy couldn't think of anything else to say. She still worried that somebody would walk in on them and report their "misconduct" to the Captain. However, she briefly forgot about that when, subconsciously, she closed her eyes and kissed Dallas on the lips. It was an unfamiliar sensation, to be sure, but Edy felt that it was the least she could do for the present she had been given. She opened her eyes, waited a few seconds for everything to register, and finally whispered, "You really know how to make a girl feel special."

They both giggled and continued to hold tightly onto one another. While neither had any intention of letting go anytime soon, Edy was secretly thinking of a hiding place for her brand new microphone. She planned on repaying Dallas properly one day...perhaps with a special song after she became famous.
