FUCK YOU SELF-ESTEEM
I approve of you drawing. Look, the thing is, you can do original art and have people be all MEH or do slash fanart and have people be all SQUEE, and which feels better? ARTISTIC INTEGRITY BE DAMNED.

Yeah, I mean, I'm enjoying drawing fanart! But there's still that little wannabe-pro inside of me that's side-eyeing 24/7 and generally finds the rest of me embarrassing. Clearly, the rest of me is winning. And besides I was an Illustration major and isn't that ultimately derivative, anyway? Side-eye away, little man.

Plus. Star Trek got me drawing again when I hadn't been for almost three years. How does anyone live without Star Trek?! Dark times.

I'm on the rest of you's side, obviously. ALSO, if drawing fanart gets your drawing muscles toned up again and gets you to draw more often, probably some Proper Art ideas will come up too, and you'll be better equipped to get them onto paper!

I know what you mean: I've fancied myself a ~writer since childhood, but I went through about a three-year dry spell and now that I am writing again it is primarily fanfic. Not that there's much of that, even. But I think fandom is a good audience for many people's talents in situations where the 'real world' would be a harsh mistress. What does this paragraph mean.

This is a cute drawing and I ship Garak/Bashir based on a few clips on youtube so I should probably watch DS9 for real I guess.
