Canon: Cowboy Bebop
Characters/Pairing: Gren
Prompt: angels and demons
Rating: G
Notes: It’s Gren, so needless to say spoilers for Sessions 12 and 13. In my personal Gren backstory, he had a somewhat religious upbringing. That comes into play a little bit with this piece.

That’s it? After all this time, after all these years, after everything that ( Read more... )

This is so sad. :/ I think of flashback!Gren, long and lean, wide-eyed at being saved from that scorpion and then content to have that music box.

Vicious sure is a bastard.

He sure is.

There's an awful lot of fury on Gren's face in this scene. I'm thinking he was more than a little irate.

(Understatement of the century.)

I really like the anger in this, from the very first sentence. With Gren seeming like such a gentle, positive character from his interactions with Faye, it can be easy to overlook the fact that he basically died to get revenge on Vicious. What a bad scene. (But wonderfully written).

Thank you. I think it's easy to see Gren as just a ploy for sympathy or as some weird fetish fantasy, but he's really quite complex on a lot of levels, and I don't think that's just me reading more into him than is there. One of the things I love best about Cowboy Bebop as a series is the amount of characterization they're able to pack into a really small space. Almost every single character in the show (at least the ones with speaking parts) have so much humanity... as you well know.

Oh Gren. You've captured his combination of bittersweet and icy cold anger that is Gren's attitude to Vicious. You've done a great job of capturing a very complex attitude -- because Gren himself is so conflicted -- in just 100 words. Beautiful.

Thank you! ♥ He's like his own little complete universe, isn't he, that encompasses everything as long as it's extreme. One side or the other, all together.

I love Gren, I remember seeing Jupiter Jazz on TV and being like, "I have GOT to watch this anime through and through!" :D Excellent drabble. It's interesting to think of him with a religious upbringing, never thought of that.

Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it!

I figure Gren's already such a study in contrasts, so why not? (He's not like anybody else.) Bebop is actually rife with the whole angel/demon symbolism, and I was challenged not to write this prompt about Vicious and Spike, the obvious choice. I'm a long-time Gren roleplayer so my version of his backstory has evolved over the past... oh, man, it's been almost five years now. He still fascinates me.
